So I'm from California but spent a few months in Scotland. One night my friends announced we were going to the Salt Cot. I was like, "Cool! Let me change out of my Gryffindor sweater and tie so I don't look like a cosplaying idiot there!" But they were like, "Nope! We're leaving now!" So off we went. I was only 20 and the drinking age back home is 21 (and I don't weigh much anyway) so I went up to the bar to order a simple, non-alcoholic apple juice. The bartender was like, "Can I see some ID?" I thought that was weird. I shouldn't need an ID for booze-free apple juice. I pulled out my CA driver's license and she was like, "Do you have your passport?" I said, "Not on me. I can't bring my passport with me everywhere. I don't want to lose it. Why do I need my passport to buy apple juice?" "Well do you have a UK driver's license? That'll work." "No, of course not. Why do I need a document saying I can drive in the UK to buy an apple juice from you? Why do I need an ID at all to buy apple juice?" "Well you see, it's after 9pm. It's 'Bar Hours.' We don't serve kids after 9pm." "But I'm not a kid. I showed you my CA driver's license that says I'll be turning 21 this year. Why isn't that good enough to buy a non-alcoholic drink?" (It should've been enough to buy an alcoholic drink, if I'd wanted one.) "Sorry. Can't prove you're not a kid, no drinks - alcoholic or otherwise." My friends got to order what they wanted and some of them were younger than me! Maybe I wouldn't have had this problem if I wasn't stuck in what looked like a British secondary school uniform. Maybe I should've shown her it says "Harry Potter," on the tie's tag. Either way, I had a valid ID proving my age and was still denied a non-alcoholic beverage just because it was after 9pm and I have a young face....
Read moreABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC. Pls Read. I visited weds 18th of August with my 2 small children and friend. Bar staff were lovely and friendly. Was a good atmosphere. All precautions were made regarding covid. We ordered quite a variety between us. My friend had the mixed grill which was great value for money. As was it all ill say so not too repeat myself. The meat was nice n juicy. I did not expect it at all. Was cooked too perfection. (I can cook. I'm very rarely impressed) Something has definitely changed. Without a doubt. So I had the simple Jalfrezi (just means don't get Nan Thier was nothing simple about the curry) but I also ordered a small pizza. The pizza was presented beautifully it did not look like it cost next too four pounds. The Jalfrezi was fantastic. Effort was made. My youngest had the haddock which again I can't fault. Everything was available for your needs. We decided to make it a regular thing because it was so good and amazing value for money. I am in no way affiliated with the salt cot. I'm a firm believer in credit where it's due. They did a great job. N even when we were served Thier were two waiters so we all received food at the same time. Which for me being a mum is vital. As I have to deal with the kids while eating myself or I dont eat. Mummas you know.... So happy for them....

1 manager was great, J knew me understood me and was fine with my going there.
Then 1 day he was not working and another 2 managers i had not seen were, i got accused by 1 member of staff V to have touched her bum. I never did the bar was packed and i had to force my way to the toilet from where i was sat.
NOTHING SAID ON THE NIGHT
Next i went in i got one pint and a manager comes up to me and says i was barred due to the supposed incident a few days before.
This manager asked me to come back on my next visit(which as i am english and own a holiday home was a few months) but i did go in, only to be told by the staff the girl who accused me was the only one to allow me back in! so i walked out.
The mangers had moved pubs and as of this it was down to someone who stated i touched her in a busy bar to allow me back in, thats just wrong, by any standard even blinkered ceo mentality..
How many people in a really busy bar can pass someone with out accidentally touching someone. Its impossible unless your intangible!
As i said this bar had 1 good manager and i liked it but my experience has tainted my...
