Used to come here regularly and it was always something to really look forward to but the our last visit was disappointing, especially after bringing friends for their first experience. We had two servers during our stay, one was very nice and helpful, while the other made us feel like we were an inconvenience to her being there. All starters were good and served in a decent time. The mains weren't very impressive. The seafood pie (Special) was very poor, the fish felt as if it was frozen, there was no variety of fish or prawns but just the overwhelming taste of smoked haddock. The white sauce (Béchamel) was so thin and bland, the mash potato topping was lumpy and very watery like the potatoes hadn't been drained and dried enough, totally bland and unseasoned. In the end I only ate half of it. The tempura battered fish was also very bland and lacked any real seasoning or crunch. Desserts were better and tasty, the only criticism was that two of the desserts were served and we had to wait another 15 mins for the next two to be served. I understand that at the weekend a restaurant is going to be busy, and I understand that the restaurant is quite small but the noise in there was so loud which made talking to your dinner guests very difficult. All in all, it was a disappointing experience from what I remember from a few years ago and I doubt I will be booking again any time...

We used to come here for a meal quite often when we lived in the Ferry many moons ago. Feeling nostalgic we thought we'd give it another go, especially as it was nice and sunny here. Unfortunately by the time we got down there, it had clouded up, but it was still really nice sitting upstairs with a view over the Tay. The food was really good and very big portions. I was a bit disappointed in the crab cakes, as I couldn't really taste or see any white crab and only could taste the dark crab, which I don't really like. I though it also a bit lazy that the chef didn't make the dip; just boring, bog-standard sweet chili dip from a jar. My husband had the Cullen Skink, and it was a very generous bowl and he liked it a lot. For mains I had the mussels, which was a starter, but again the portions were so big, it was more than enough. And my husband got the fried seafood basket, again huge portions. I've never seen him leave the majority of his chips on the plate before! Overall, really nice food and good service, but the bread which came with the soup and mussels was a real disappointment. 2 slices of cheap brown bread. I don't expect them to bake their own, but I'm sure there are bakeries in the Ferry or Dundee who could do much,...

Thought I would try Ship Inn for lunch .Steak pie was home made ,served with fresh carrot and turnip and peas .Frozen chips were cooked crispy so we're good .Partner had what were described as Crab Cakes. Ingredients like crab ,mustard coriander were listed on Menu so we assumed they were home made .Sadly no they were all uniform in size and Frozen .They were terrible ,no taste at all Served with salad but it was lettuce and green stuff out of a bag ,no tomato just a few brick hard match stick of carrots ,no dressing so bone dry .Served with lemon wedge .Was supposed to be chilli sauce it was dreadful ,no taste at all and watery .Total disappointment .Steak Pie was £12.99 and worth it .Crab cakes were inedible and £6.99 .Waste of money .Ice cream for after was supposed to be served with round shortbread biscuits but was served with cheap shortbread finger .Coffee was nice with the missing shortbread round on plate ,nice touch .All in roughly £40 but would not rush back .Why have chef when buying in frozen...

He says, I had the fish pie and it was tasty. Accompanying vegetables were plain and simple. Haggis pakora for starters were also yummy. But, food portions are huge, if you don't have a big appetite then go for the half portions. (Or, skip a starter!) Staff were friendly and service was quick. She says, This was a great place! Book ahead by phone to make sure you get a table. Restaurant is upstairs, bar downstairs and some outside seating. Food was great, flavoursome and well seasoned. I had salt and pepper squid and haddock risotto from the special menu. Both were generous portions and very nice. Will definitely go back and recommend to friends and family. Service was also friendly l, chatty but professional. Some might think the surroundings a little old fashioned but to be honest, the view and the food make up for that. I would have given 5 stars!

Last minute decision to try here for dinner in the restaurant. Went in at 6:45pm on a wet and windy February night and the restaurant was full but the staff were great and offered us a table around 7:30 so we took a drink in the bar while we waited. A good atmosphere in a ‘proper pub’ and the atmosphere in the restaurant was also good with a busy ‘buzz’. The food was great, as was the service. Great value for money with very generous portions. Mrs D started with black pudding fritters (big enough to pass for a main course in many places) followed by Goats Cheese Nut Roast and I started with Cullen Skink followed by a braised blade of beef from the specials menu. All were delicious, coupled with a very reasonably priced bottle of decent Sauvignon Blanc. Bottom line, well worth a try but pre-book to make sure you don’t miss out.

Oh, you won't believe how much I adored this place! I couldn't stop myself from visiting it again and again. And why wouldn't I? The "Fresh Scottish Mussels" were an absolute delight and the beautiful Tay in the background made it all the more special. I've also tried other dishes here like crab cakes and Cullen Skink, and let me tell you, they were beyond satisfactory! The service was nothing short of amazing, and Lynn deserves a special mention for being so friendly, welcoming, and accommodating. If you're ravenously hungry, I suggest you go for a starter because the main dish might take a while, but trust me, it's worth the wait. And you know what? You simply can't visit Broughty Ferry without checking out The Ship Inn!!!
