Thurso Community Café — Restaurant in Scotland

Upon first visit I wasn't sure if there was table service but just followed suit at ordered at the counter, payment is taken when you order although with my first visit I was asked if I'd like to pay now or after I've eaten so not sure what options are available and feel a little confused so I just pay up front, I've been a few times now, food is very tasty but menu is limited for gluten allergies, no advertisement of gluten free on the menu but to be fair to the establishment I've not asked if gluten free is available so won't let it reflect negatively in...

We dropped in for lunch after a visit to the nearby fishmonger. "Community" café means that you can pay what you wish and proceeds go to help finance the various support groups that meet in the venue. So it seems a little unfair to review the quality of the food as one would a conventional restaurant. I would say it is adequate. The staff are, I assume, volunteers and friendly. Service with a smile certainly doesn't exist here. food was ok, but cheap and re-heated. Staff forgot our drinks, wife got up and asked for them close to us finishing our meal. We were told, or rather, snapped at "we're working through them" (this comprised of tea for two and a couple of carton drinks for the kids - half an hour after ordering them) a few minutes later they were slammed down on the table.
