Absolutely brilliant experience. Thank you, An, Chris, and ALL colleagues - on the door, in the cafe, at the shop. It was an amazing visit for me.

You were all so massively helpful to me (and my other half) when we visited in late May.

Chris, thank you for the chat in a shared language - it enchanted me, and made me feel more connected with my roots. Also, to come across two customers taking tea in the cafe, who filled me in on details surrounding a relative who used to work a certain shop in the 70s and 80s was an unexpected and very welcome bonus. The lovely kitchen staff helped in this regard also.

The Pictish stuff was simply stunning for me, too. The space, layout, features and resources were all absolutely brilliant.

I thank ALL of you.

You are a credit to the organisation that you work for.

I am hugely grateful, and wish...

This is a brilliant museum. I visited a few years ago when it was Caithness Horizons. I knew the museum had closed for some time. It is great that now it has reopened under High Life Highland as the North Coast Visitor Centre. Entrance is free and donations welcome, which is incredible considering what you see and can read up about. Caithness has an amazing, varied history. It was incredible to see the operations console from Dounreay. There was a short film to watch about the Nuclear site and how it shaped this part of Scotland. There is also a gallery which is part of the museum. You will need a couple of hours to do this place justice,...

Cranachan cake and Tea Loaf in the Museum Cafe in Thurso. Half a dozen school boys came in whilst we were enjoying our cakes. The “High school” boys were very well behaved, very well spoken -all about thirteen or fourteen. The proprietress came over as they were going to get up and leave. She said what a pleasure they had been to serve because they were polite and very well behaved. She said it to them in front of us so I joined in and said we had also noted the same and thanked them. How often does that happen? It was so refreshing, so pleasant and enjoyable! The service and food were excellent and delicious...

A incredibly nice visitor center, better described as a mini museum. If passing the area this is really worth the time for a visit. The two highlights for myself is a section devoted to historic stone pillar engravings and rune stones. The other related to a nuclear power generator that had now been decommissioned, where the original control console is placed in the museum. The visitor center is located close walking distance to a old church ruin from the 1200s, which is also worth visiting at the same time.

A free (by donation) attraction that exceeded my expectations. An exhibition about the Pictish culture of Caithness, with wonderful original stone carvings, on the ground floor followed by a fascinating exhibition about the Dounreay nuclear power station. The top floor was dedicated to the ecological significance of the Flow country, important local industries and people. A beautiful 20 minute film plays on loop at a small cinema. I spent 1.5 hours there and could have enjoyed longer. Open 10am - 4pm.
