PLASTIC BAG ON OUR STEAK SANDWICH!
Y not? I can think of many reason why not to visit this place.
Never normally leave negative reviews but given what we experienced here I feel we need to to warn others away.
Myself and my wife arrived on a Friday evening while we were visiting Thurso on a weekend away together, this was also meant to be to look at places to eat with clients while working in Thurso in the future.
When we arrived we were told there was only room for us upstairs as it was bust despite there being several free tables, we were happy to sit upstairs however. We were told to sit anywhere we liked as all the tables were free up here.
When the waiter came to take a drinks order he then asked us to move seats to a table that was already set so he didnt need to do another table.
After ordering drinks we had another waiter come to take our drinks order again, we told him that we had made an order already. A third waiter arrived 10 minutes later (still waiting on drinks at this point), we again told him we had ordered drinks but not food. At this he told us he would wait till we had our drinks to take a food order as the kitchen was playing catch up.
Our drinks soon arrived but or original waiter disappeared not taking a food order. 5 minutes later the third waiter returned with drinks for the table beside us who had arrived 10 minutes after us and proceeded to take their food order. We waited another 10 minutes before going to the bar to ask if we could order food.
Our original waiter then came to our table to tell us they couldnt take a food order until the kitchen was ready for more orders. When I asked why the two other tables that came in after us had had their orders taken he rolled his eyes and said okay and proceeded to take our order.
30 minutes later our starters arrived by which time one of the other tables that had arrived after us had already finished their food. When our arrived we were told sorry this is the best we can do. Half the sides to my wives meal were missing. However as we were just glad to eventually have food we ate it and didnt complain.
Our mains eventually arrived after another long wait. While my wife was eating hers (a steak sandwich) she pulled out what we both thought at first was a piece of fat from the sandwich. However, when we looked closer this turned out to be an actual plastic bag with a knot in the end. How it was possible to be fried, cut up and served on the sandwich I am unsure but we believe this may have been done on purpose by either the chef or waiter as there is no way this could have been missed while preparing the food.
We immediately went to the bar and asked to speak to a manager. After around 5 minutes our waiter returned to say there was no manager present could he help. We explained everything we had had that night and said we wouldnt be paying for anything. All we were told is sorry theres nothing I can do. He wasnt bothered in the slightest!
Long story short, do not eat here its an absolute disgrace of an...
Read moreI was travelling the North Coast 500 with my sister-in-law who is vegan. Stumbled onto this place and we were both so excited with the options available for her and the large, nicely decorated split level interior. Unfortunately, this was as far as we got before the experience soured. We were ignored by the wait staff so we approached them to ask if we had to be seated or seat ourselves. Gentleman said we could sit wherever we wanted. We asked if we could sit upstairs and he said yes. We found a nice spot and went back down to order. Female waitress looked visibly irritated by us sitting upstairs and when taking our order was incredibly unfriendly. We shook it off and tried to give her the benefit of the doubt. We've both been in food service as wait staff and understand bad days. After our appetizer we went back down to order another round of pop. The same female waitress saw us but walked around behind the bar ignoring us for minutes. We made eye contact several times but before I could open my mouth to ask for her she would walk away. At this point I was so gobsmacked by how rude she was being that I just waited patiently with my money out very clearly waiting to be served in hopes another waiter would see us and help. Three THREE other customers came up after us yet got served before us. Finally, somebody walked up and waited to be served behind us at which point the lady LOOKED BEHIND US AND ASKED IF HE NEEDED SOMETHING. He looked and us and said, "Do you want to help them first?" I let out an astonished chuckle and the waitress coldly responded, "Sure." The food was amazing. The restaurant itself was nice. The service absolutely ruined it entirely and really bummed us out. We had done absolutely nothing and were treated so poorly. It was such a disappointment. I feel sorry for the owner who's clearly put a lot of work into the restaurant only to have her staff ruin it's reputation by being so unbelievably rude. That waitress has no business being in any customer...
Read moreFood and service were really great and recommended. Huge portions and very good quality. Only thing to let it down was the 'welcome' we received. We are visiting the area on holiday. The restaurant has signs from the high street to an alleyway. The alleyway has a sign for the bar, with an open, well-lit door. We made the 'mistake' of walking through this clear entrance to be told extremely abruptly by a waitress that we'd come 'the wrong way' and to 'use the right door next time'. We were told there was a sign, but we'd certainly not seen one visible. We were made to stand by the 'right door' literally a few feet away from where we stood before they'd serve us. I've honestly never come so close to leaving a place I'd only just entered.
The awful welcome was a real shame as the food and drink were superb and our waiter couldn't have been more helpful. His service was prompt, efficient and friendly. He apologised profusely when we told how we'd been treated when we arrived.
On the way out, we followed the signed path and exited out of the same 'wrong' door we'd entered. The waitress was right, there was a sign, but as the door was open in a fixed position the sign was facing the wall and impossible to see when you enter.
My recommendation, keep the great food and waiter but lose the awful attitude when welcoming guests. If someone is coming in the 'wrong' way, try assuming good intentions and give them gentle guidance, especially when it's a family with a young child. Even better, put up clearer signs or don't prop the exit door open, so that people don't unintentionally make the mistake in the...
