Where to start! From the outset the hotel looks good, an effort has been made to make it look tidy recently decorated and freshened up however, it’s far from tidy and certainly not clean. We booked an overnight stay in a triple room (room 9) first impressions were good (view images) all looked okay but hygiene wise it’s probably the dirtiest hotel or B&B I’ve ever stayed in. There was multiple hairs on the bedding and pillows, some stains on the sheets, one duvet cover was ripped with a big hole in it, there’s stains on the carpet and up various walls. The bathroom door has brown marks on the inside and outside, dirty fingerprints and cobwebs in the corners Of the room. The bathroom decorating hasn’t been finished and is poorly painted (bathroom door is painted with emulsion) the mirror on the wall isn’t secure, old and knackered to boot. (Unsafe) The shower did not work at all! Discovered this morning which wasn’t great with 3 adults sharing a tiny tiny bathroom. Dust on extractor fans, and on the supplied room fan. Cup stains on the menus and clearly dirty and sticky. The glasses had lipstick on the edges and hadn’t been cleaned. Coffee machine was dirty, dusty and still had the previous usurers spent expresso cartridge in it. The staff were great in fairness, the young lady on the bar was brilliant and accommodating, very polite and professional unlike the owner who sat getting pissed in the bar whilst berating young staff members and ordering himself pints to the table whilst discussing football with his chum, very unprofessional conduct particularly in front of customers, made me feel uncomfortable as a business owner myself I’d never talk to staff the way he did. We had planned on an evening meal and breakfast but after seeing how unhygienic the room was I really didn’t want to eat there so had to get a takeaway. The location is excellent, close to everything you need and plenty to do nearby. To sum up I’d have had no issue leaving a 1 star review but reconsidered based purely on the effort of the young girl who served us most of our visit. Definitely wouldn’t stay here again after witnessing the owners degrading attitude towards staff. What a shame, expected something traditionally Scottish and welcoming but left more annoyed than anything’ that they even let that room out says it all... Bad experience 😢. Dirtiest hotel I ever stayed in. Edit: Reply to owners reply. Hi, I am allowed to edit typos on my reviews... I do find it astonishing that you're so offended by the updated review but were not at all bothered about addressing the state of the room we stayed in, never reached out and done nothing to rectify the situation. Perhaps you are under new management so I wish you well, but the review is accurate and correct at the time of posting it. Regards, Dan

Had food here before many times previous to tonight never had a problem. However tonight we ordered haggis topped burger and medium rare rump steak. Burger meal was great and well presented, but the steak was served rare. Requested it to be changed and cooked medium rare as asked for originally. When the replacement "steak" arrived, it was sitting in a pool of grease, mushrooms were cremated, whisky sauce was cold. The "steak" and I use the term loosely, was like an off cut piece of meat mostly consisting of gristle, and was very well done, not medium rare. It seemed like the chef didn't appreciate the wrongly cooked steak being returned and though he's teach us a lesson. WRONG......... After sampling the steak it was decided that the remainder should be left uneaten. We got the waiters attention, upon seeing the uneaten steak he said "was that one worse"!!!! He offered desserts as compensation, which we politely refused, let him know we weren't prepared to pay for the steak and asked for the bill. When the bill arrived we noticed we were charged for the steak. Again we pointed out that we weren't paying for something that in our view wasn't satisfactory and asked for it to be deducted from the bill. Eventually this was done. At no point were we approached by any management, despite them be informed. As I've already said, we've eaten at The West Port many times previously, but after tonight it might be some time before we return. Not impressed

Finally using a voucher we bought last year and we weren't sure what to expect. However, it has to be said, we were pleasantly surprised! The room was spacious with a nesspresso machine and plenty of coffee and snacks. Nice view and brand new seeming, if slightly tight, bathroom. The room was good but still needs a little updating with the carpet and some walls needing attention but this didn't take away from our overall enjoyment. The staff were great, making us welcome from the first to last minute of our visit. The included two courses were very tasty with the lamb main being the highlight! Would recommend especially as it is clear they are trying to revamp the place, a new carpet being laid in hallways etc. We hope to be back soon

On Saturday I met the guests who were presenting the charity cheques for a meal . Venue , the West port Hotel. |Our guests were residents for the night.|Meal booked for 545pm. My steak dinner looked lovely when it came. Unfortunately after a mouthful I was choking on food. It does happen. I tried a swig of beer hoping it would wash it down. It didn't. I dashed to the gents my hand over my mouth. No mess made on the way. I tried to dislodge it. Felt embarrassed. I went back to my table, attempting to continue. No happening. I tried in vain to wash it down, made it worse. This time I covered my mouth with napkins and dashed back to gents. A male member of staff slapped my back as some food came up as well as liquid. |After washing hands and drying blurry eyes , I left where I was accosted by a female and male members of staff . The female saying and I quote to the letter |" excuse me , this is a family run establishment and we can't tolerate this type of behaviour " I was amazed. I explained I was choking , and not on purpose. She come back with " We seen you twice being sick and as a family business we can't have this "! I was dumbfounded. I explained, voice crockie I was there with guests who were residents. Also we were having a meal before presentation of charity cheques at the local bowling club quiz. I tried to explain who i was , represent and I'm not a trouble maker, wasn't drunk and I do a fair bit for the community. The lad on attendance didn't say much except " we don't know who you are as we don't come from Linlithgow " . The woman said " well you better take things easy then " in a lecturer style way. I was absolutely raging, and now totally embarrassed. I went back to my table where my two guests enquired if I was ok, and anything they could do .|I told them I had to leave. Still feeling groggy. I explained I'd meet them at the bowling club. I went through and hurriedly paid the bill. £61.00. I left in disgust, dissatisfied and angry. I got to the bowling club , still not breathing great . Fortunately, the person behind the bar assisted and I eventually got the piece of onion which was wedged in my throat.out. Water helped get me back in a better place. Being asthmatic, I did wheeze a fair bit but inhaler helped. I'm just of the phone from this woman. I called asking for an explanation and why I was spoken to in a very unsympathetic manner. And wasn't even asked if I was alright. This woman told a lots of whoppers on this call today. I explained I didn't want to go down the social media statements route. |I was told " we could have boxed your food for you to take away "! |I understand local businesses these days require support. So do...

Was in the west port with two of my employees last Sunday and in the last few months after several bad experiences this was by far the worst finding it a hit or a miss. Being a Linlithgow local and having my own catering g business I like to support local. However my experiences have been as follows first time a few months ago had a big black hair on my gammon steak when bringing my parents for dinner was told it must have come from the egg? It was replaced but by then everyone else had finished eating. Second time was left waiting on my starter for 20 mins. 3rd time same thing when booked for a get together with work colleagues. 3rd time Father’s Day and ordered Sunday lunch my veg was frozen and I don’t mean cold I mean from freezer frozen. Then Sunday was the biggest waste of £66 pounds. Stuff on menu not available not told it’s not available till you order it. No beef for the roast dinner then when it came no Yorkshire pudding not lots of gravy roast potatoes were rock solid could hardly get my fork through them veg was pretty cold on comparison to the local old post office the quality and portions for the price was mikes apart. My colleague got fish and chips the oil clearly needed changing as the fish was dark brown not light and crispy as was his chips and my other colleague had chicken schnitzel which was also burnt solid on the outside no veg no salad nothing but a dry burnt lump of chicken and the same with chips. Asked for the bill and add to ask twice thereafter. Not good at all went home and had beans on toast total waste...
