Myself and family come into dukes often to eat or to sit and enjoy drinks... normally service is spot on by all especially (verity.) Who always goes above and beyond, But today was a complete different experience. I came in with myself son & dog we sat outside . I asked my son to go get us some drinks while I stayed with our dog outside in the seating area I asked him for a ' flat white ' & I persummed he had ordered hiself a drink as well. My son came back out after paying & told me the lady will bring it out in a min , my son then nipped to cheak if barbers couple doors up was open , a waitress then fetched two drinks 1 being a flat white and 1 being a cup of tea. I didnt think anything of it and persummed that was our order and i was just in process of confirming with my son if he ordered himself a cup of tea ( this would be his usual or a lemonade ) . When another waitress came out with a flat white I explained and apologised I must of accepted the wrong order & tried to explain . The waitress become very arguementive and challenging towards my son ( who has learning disabitlies) even though I tried to explain the situation she accused my son of ordering more drinks on perpose and that he must of spoke to another waitress inside and ordered "double drinks" .. I tried to explain she was mis - understanding the situation and if she would like to get the other waitress who fetched us our drinks we could try explain further . She told me she wasn't miss - understanding the situation and contuined to challenge my son ! Either way if she would of just listened and let us explain the situation it could of been resolved in a calm manner . Me accepting the cup of tea was my mistake but something that could of been resolved with understanding and good manners . Which this waitress certainly didn't have . If I wouldn't of already payed for my drink I actually would of just left . As I asked her to get a manager so I could speak to them instead and she ignored me and carried on to challenge. We was greeted with a bad attitude like we couldn't afford our drinks and made to feel very very small infront of other...
Read moreAs a regular customer, I was looking forward to showing off my local to a visiting friend after a long beach walk.We sat outside as we had his dog with us.Nobody came to take our order so I had to go in and asked the guy for breakfast menus. He gave them to me and asked where we were sitting. Again nobody came to take our order so I had to go back in again.Spoke to same man and asked if I could just order at the bar as we were really hungry by this point. He refused and said he would send someone out to take our order.we gave our order to the waitress. She returned and said breakfast was over.I explained how long we had been waiting and had been given the breakfast menus and I would like her to speak to the manager as this was not acceptable service. She returned with lunch menus and said the chef refused to oblige. I looked at the lunch menu and said we would order off that if it would get us some food. She then said we had to wait another half hour before she could take our order for lunch as lunch didn't start until 12.00. A restaurant that doesn't serve food for 45 minutes in the morning?? Appalling when we had been given menus and their fault for poor service. You have potentially lost 4...
Read moreI contacted Dukes weeks ago and asked if it would be possible for one of the team to read out a card for my nephew. My nephew now lives in Australia and as my family live in plymouth we were unable to attend. I created a family group card and put together a little rhyme as a special surprise as we could not be there. I was assured that it would be read out. I double checked days before if this was OK and was told yes. I would have been happy to give this task to a family member but as I was assured staff were happy to do it - I left it in their hands. What happened? The card was simply put on the table and ruined the whole event. Do not rely on what this establishment's word to carry out requests they promise much but give little thought to your wishes. The male staff member I liased with who assured me all would be carried out couldn't...
