We visited The Railway on a Saturday afternoon, and our table was booked online. Upon arrival at about 12 noon, our table had been reserved. However, we were still able to select any of the free tables available, which we did. We ordered at the bar, and our meals of sausage and mash and 8oz sirloin steak arrived promptly. Regarding the food, although my steak had flavour, it was rather tough and chewy and was difficult to cut into, I was rather surprised by this, although I did eat it all and it was tasty. Maybe it wasn't aged long enough or a tough piece of meat that can happen. The beef dripping gravy was really tasty. The sausage and mash were tasty with good flavoursome sausages. The surroundings inside and outside are very nice, with a big customer car park. Overall, we enjoyed our visit and would recommend this eatery to other folk.👍

On my way into Formby Beach, I stopped at a place called The Railway for something to eat, and it turned out to be a real highlight of the day. They welcomed my dog (a lively Dutch Shepherd!). I think the lady who served us was named Isabel though I apologise if I got that wrong. The food was fresh and full of flavour. I had a dish that really hit the spot(see photo), and my friend went for fish and chips he was seriously impressed, saying it wasn’t greasy at all and probably the best he’s ever had. If you’re heading to Formby, I’d absolutely recommend making a stop here. Great food, genuinely lovely people, and a warm welcome for humans and dogs alike.

Came in here with friends and family for a sitdown meal and a beer. Very disappointing with the food and portion size. I would say this is not value for money and would say the majority of the surrounding pubs on offer - offer better service and better value for money. Cross house - Freshfield - Grapes I have been in all of these and can say I read the managers comments and they are quite laughable of all the replies on the reviews. Please understand that customers want satisfaction and not to be discredited for their honest personal experiences. Will not be going back back.

A bit cheesed off really called in on the 04/08/21 for a pint or two on my way home Now my family and I have frequented The Railway over the many years for both food and drink which may I add has always good food and good service However the night in question I feel fell way under the norm I ordered my 1st pint of John Smiths bitter which I enjoyed ordered another one and went the gents I came back to the bar area where I had drank my first pint and continued to drink the remainder of my 2nd I was at that point considering ordering a 3rd pint when i noticed to my right a small group of your staff were standing around one of the high bar tables idly chatting away to which is fine But on the same PUBLIC BAR HIGH TABLE there was a kitchen member of staff with numerous open Tupperware type boxes on show what it looked like to me was prepping the next days tomatoes mushrooms and other vegetables chatting away with the other members of staff I myself have worked in kitchens in the UK and around the world and that practise of prepping vegetables in any public area is totally forbidden and obviously not hygienic at all I know you are going to say all the veg gets washed before cooking Well I understand that but I am talking about the prepping practice To basically put a tin hat on it so to speak I was then asked by one of your bar staff to go and find a seat and sit down as there is no standing and drinking at the bar I drunk hastily the last of my...

Very poor customer service experience. A group vision impaired friends visited Tuesday gone the above establishment. They barely read the menu to us. It seems like a bit of an imposition. Yes we narrowed down some of the topics. But after no more than 2-3 minutes, he walked away. Whitest I appreciate staffing is an issue, they seem so very unhelpful. When we went over to the bar to order a meal, he got the order in the wrong order two of us ate lunch for about 20 minutes to half an hour and then our 2 other friends got their lunch 30 minutes later, so we got to watch them eat as they watched us earlier on. I have a guide dog and my friend told me that they put the coffee on the bar that I’d ordered in order for me to walk away with it and take it to my table, but I really and literally couldn’t. They just seemed not to be bothered. I can’t speak to other peoples experience. The food wasn’t of a very high quality. The burger was not burnt but overly cooked the chips were flaccid. My coffee was lukewarm when served. If I could give it, no stars I would, but it is impossible with Google Maps. We won’t be visiting this...

Came here after a lovely craft session for a friend's birthday. I ordered my go to steak sandwich. How disappointed was I. It looked so good, however the steak was as tough as old boots, fatty and some pieces were actually inedible. I ate what I could because i was hungry but I actually had to remove a piece from my mouth as i could be chewed for another 2 hours and still not got through it. I called over the server and explained I wanted to feed back and told her what i had experienced. She looked at me as if to say 'and?' So I had to ask her to feed it back to the kitchen which she walked off to do. We were sat there fir at least another 20 minutes and she.never cale back. An apology would've sufficed but I never even got that. My friend had the cauliflower dopiaza and she said the cauliflower was nearly raw and eas difficult to eat. She didn't say anything as she didn't want to make.a fuss as it was a treat for her birthday. Very disappointed in the food and service. I can honestly say it's one of the worst pub meals...
