What a good find for an overnight stopover in the car park of The Cross House Inn Formby before catching the ferry to Dublin (only 30mins drive from pub). We rang up before arriving to make sure that it was ok to park overnight. The guy on the phone couldn’t have been more helpful and friendly and informed us that it was ok to stop. On arrival we parked at the back of the car park where there was plenty of overhang onto the grassed area. Then off into the pub where we spoke to a guy called Sam to let him know we were staying. He was welcoming and said we could stay as long as we wanted. We then took a table at a window seat. The decoration of the pub is modern and welcoming with a very local pub feel about it. We ordered from the menu a selection of 5 small plates. Food was served in a timely manner and well presented. After a very tasty main meal we then had the sharing desserts which was a selection of 5 small portions and more than enough after our mains. The prices of both drinks and food was very reasonable and well worth it. Sam was a very chatty guy and gave us info on the local area and beaches. He was a pleasure to speak to. If down this way again we will definitely pop in. A really friendly atmosphere and good food and drink.

Went for Christmas day meal and initially was going ok apart from not taking any drinks order for ages after saying they will be back shortly. Then serving dessert with no cutlery, had to go and ask as they keep them secured in the back! Christmas pudding was like it was microwaved too long and gone like toffee, had to change it which again took ages. Chock brownie served with custard AND ice cream!! Not the baileys sauce advertised. Then to finish no one came near to ask us and had to go and ask twice. Cant have coffee as machine was temperamental. Eventually got served. 2 1/2 hours for a meal! Very disappointed considering the £71 a head charge. And milk served in a tiny cup that doesn’t pour!! Just why. Edit: in response, we booked 5 days before. Your server admitted you didnt picknit up until the day. When you have ask twice because you have been forgotten thats nothing to do with last minute especially as we were the only people eating for nearly an hour. The website/email didnt ask for preorder and either way we had the food that was from a fairly narrow menu and was apparently plentiful.

It's just a small walk from the main shops. It was quite empty when we came today for lunch. I had booked beforehand and was told I could take my pick with the seating. I was a bit disappointed that they have now stopped the senior menu that they used to have but apparently it's no longer available. Anyway I ordered the chicken shawarma on naan and it was quite good. Service was good and meals arrived fairly quickly. Reasonable range of Real ales and beers. Good value for money. They have a large beer garden at the front and another one at the rear. The car park is quite large and should have no problem finding a space.

I have been to dine in at ‘The Cross House’ Formby on several occasions most recently today. What I have found most interesting about this place is the different areas you are able to socialise and eat. The front of house, front outside part of the pub overlooks the busy village and is very spacious, and the locals are extremely friendly, often stopping to chat and have a quick natter 😊 The staff and management team are very attentive, extremely friendly and I am very impressed with the overall high standard of customer service. The staff work with pace, and are very well trained, extremely professional, polite and courteous. Very endearing and extremely impressive indeed! 😊

I have found they are quick, efficient and always serve with a smile 😁 My favourite choices of food are; the fish chips, the cost effective chicken wraps and their customised chips are really tasty! The chicken wings, tacos and cheesy barbecue chips are very nice indeed and the price is very competitive compared to other places in the area. I was also very impressed by the quality and taste of their food compared to other constabularies in the area which I have dined in; places such as Weatherspoon’s & Emily’s .

From my experience I have found the Cross house’s food to be very tasty indeed and of a very high standard and overall quality. I feel that the quality of their food starters, mains and puddings has a definite edge! There is just something about the taste that is unquestionably different. I love the way every single member of staff that has served me has a service with a smile 😀 and their polite manners have resulted in I introducing my friends, acquaintances and work colleagues - who have all expressed that they are grateful for the recommendation.

I think in terms of maintenance and general care for the restaurant it is kept extremely clean and well looked after both inside and outside areas!

Additionally, I absolutely love 💕 the atmosphere throughout the pub and restaurant eating areas it is very vibrant and relaxed. Both the inside and outside dining areas in the front, and back are kept well, and are serviced and attended to by the staff frequently, which I feel maintains a high standard of service! The outside dining area at the back of the pub has private secluded places (pods) where you can eat and drink. There are also more open parts of the garden, which I really like, especially when the sun ☀️ is shining. However, if you are a none sun worshipper there are also shaded parts of the garden where you can eat or you can chose to eat in a pod which allows you to have more intact private time while you eat, and they are extremely spacious inside which allow for larger groups to eat together. Great idea! 🥳

Inside the atmosphere is very vibrant and the pub televises the match on match days which is great for the sports goers. On Fridays and Saturdays the pubs atmosphere notches right up and becomes very vibrant and the staff seem to take it up a notch or two. They are so vibrant, extremely bubbley and proactive. The pub puts out great vibrant music ready for the weekend and their music choices are is highly appreciated by the all locals, as it adds to a great weekend night and creates great atmosphere 😊 undoubtedly definitely adds to the hustle and bustle within this wonderful place!

I will definitely continue to dine here and bring my fiends colleagues to eat with me 💝

Thank you for to ALL the staff at ‘The Cross House’ You all work so very hard and always with a smile. A big congrats to YOU ALL - most definitely a WOW on me 😊 Well done!...

I don't like leaving poor reviews. In this case, a bad review is fully justified. It was a lovely Sunday with full sun and as expected, everywhere was busy. My wife and I plus three Ukrainian guests had gone to Formby beach for a bit of sandcastle building. We thought we'd entertain our guests with some good British pub food. We found this place and went into the garden (dog). First impressions, not great - sticky table with previous customer's glasses etc left with a stinking ashtray. My wife went to the bar for some drinks and asked for the table to be cleared. After 5 orr 10 minutes, wife returns to bar with food order - just sandwiches as we didn't want anything more and, our four year old guest was tired and we wanted something quick. After about 50 minutes, no food and still a dirty table. Wife returns to bar and was told, for the first time, there was an hour delay for all food orders - wife asks to cancel food order and then told "yours is next out in 5 minutes". OK, we'll give it 5 minutes. Five minutes, 10, 15, 20, 25 minutes and still no sign of food. Refund cost of food, no real apology and disappointed Ukrainian guests. I do understand that it was a warm Sunday and that lots of people would be out - if I figured that out, why couldn't the landlord of this poor excuse for a pub serving food. My wife was keen to offer excuse after excuse for this appalling demonstration of poor planning, poor service - at a time when lots of decent pubs are closing through no fault of their own, this one actually deserves to close. Sorry but I don't think I've seen such poor performance ever. I've seen the response - they would say that wouldn't they! Sorry that doesn't do it - probably their standard response to...

Having been a little disappointed to go out for , I think, the second time since the embuggerance began for an " intimate" meal, (rather than a bash or family outing), we discovered the cross house to be " closed for refurbishment" about a fortnight ago.

So, like all good Christians, we swore a blasted oath, moved on, and tried again. Our fault- we should have checked!

I'm glad we did try again though.

Our house is in the middle of some industrial grade renovation, so meals, whilst up to the usual high culinary standards, have been a rather brief affair of late- nobody wants to sit round in a mostly empty, undecorated room.

It being sunday, we'd decided on a wobble and a quiet meal, and tried the cross house again.

I had a mixed grill in mind, but after s consultation, we decided on a sharing platter with a few sides ( squid, chicken, mango and lime tacos and a pound of chicken wings to " fill n the corners".). The platter had chicken gougons, a couple of wings, garlic bread (it's the future), onion rings and a bowl of smothered nachos.

The whole thing was presented in fine style ( and in person!) by our young chef.

If I say I have never had a better platter outside of the USA, it's no exaggeration.

Nothing was too much trouble- we were left the perfect time to enjoy our pre meal drinks ( a couple of very presentable pints of real ale - quite an achievement since one of the barmaids whispered an aside that they'd been " hammered on the real ale sales due to the jubilee," and all things considered could not have been treated nicer.

I look forward to a return visit got my...
