Tom Bell Traditional Fish & Chips - Edenbridge — Restaurant in Sevenoaks

The worst experience ever. Starting with the fact that we have ordered and paid online, it was specified collection in 20 min, I got there in 25-30 min the guy was sitting outside and he didn’t even accept the order. He only accepted it when I got there and started preparing it, had to wait for another 15-20 mins until he cooks it. I then got home in 5-7 min and actually tried the food - horrible. Fish and chips absolutely tasteless, fish overcooked but managed to eat half of the fish by adding some sauces and salt on the top, not much difference but eatable. Tried one chips and the rest went straight to the bin. Pictures attached of chips - tasteless, no salt, no pepper, a bit undercooked. You cannot call these cheese chips, shame on you. Found some black spots on the calamari which went to the bin as well. Burger tasted better, however for the quality of these burgers they charge way too much, we pay about same price down the road, but the taste and quality is just incomparable. Such a shame it was our first order and planned to come back, but after trying the food, we definitely won’t be coming back and won’t recommend Tom Bell Fish & Chips to anyone. Next time will go to there competitors. A popular place with a good reputation. This was our first visit here and we were sadly disappointed. The haddock was well cooked but the batter was too thick and somewhat more greasy than expected. (Just as if the cooking oil temperature was less high than needed). The size of the chips portion was on the small side, though the quality of the chips was OK.

So nothing to rave about, and not in any way unacceptable. The pricing was slightly on the high side, but with prices going up all the time that little extra cost might have been expected.

There are better fish and chip shops, but maybe not...

As long time residents we rate this shop highly. All the food is high quality and prepared to order. Chips are really good. Chunky style and cooked perfectly never greasy or soggy. Calamari is reconstituted filling which may not be to everyone's taste but like everything else is cooked well and tasty and is really popular. Vegan and gluten free catered for really well.
