I really don’t understand why this place has a high rating because the food was shockingly bad. The best thing about our visit was the drinks, which were two fruit smoothies. The starters we ordered consisted of prawns and a mixed platter of halloumi fries, sweet potato fries, jalapeño bites and chilli cheese bites and a portion of bread with humus. The prawns were average at best and the platter, which cost £19, was not good at all. It tasted like the frozen stuff that you can buy from any supermarket and to charge £19 for this is just criminal. The bread was inedible as it was really hard and stale and I can’t even believe they served it like this. We then ordered the chicken steak and chips with a side of salad for a main dish and this was incredibly underwhelming too. The portion of chicken was big, which is nice, but in terms of flavour it was just average. It’s the sort of thing that I could easily make at home. The side of salad also wasn’t fresh and the lettuce started to brown, indicating that it was going off. The truffle oil on the fries was overpowering but they were well cooked and would have tasted better had we not chosen to have truffle oil on top. In regards to this, when we ordered this dish, the waitress asked if I would like the truffle oil and Parmesan on top of the fries but she did not specify that this would come at an extra cost so I was shocked to see this on the bill. To make matters worse, it cost £4 for a sprinkle of parmesan and truffle oil on top of the fries, which is just excessive and ridiculous. Its also wrong to not inform customers of this beforehand and I honestly felt scammed by it. Our bill came to a total of over £70. At this price point, you expect great food and service at the very least and this was just not the case here.
This is the sort of place that would be good for drinks and shisha after a nice meal somewhere else but I wouldn’t recommend the...
Read moreEarlier this week, I decided to try Lounge 418 with a friend after seeing it recommended on social media. I did call beforehand and was happy to learn it served halal meat. At the time, I didn’t realise it also accommodated for shisha, which made me a little hesitant when arriving as I don’t like such places customarily. However, the smokers along with the pipes were all outside upon the terrace, which didn’t make a difference to the pleasant family-friendly interior of the cafe.
We both ordered the ‘House Breakfast’ which consisted of a full English with a Middle Eastern twist, accompanied by Persian tea. It was without a doubt the best full English breakfast I’ve ever had, served with big portions, which took us a while to finish.
A minor complaint however would be in regard to the outdated information on their website and Facebook page. The website does not seem to feature the updated menu, and the prices are shown as less. I believe we paid £14.50 for the breakfast (which was quite reasonable for what you get) though the website suggests breakfast to be ~£10. The Facebook page also explicitly states within the Intro section; students receive 15% off all food and drink, yet when I paid the bill, I was told they do not offer student discount.
That said, we still had a very pleasant experience here, from the food to the customer service to the serenity of the cafe. I cannot recommend this place and their ‘House Breakfast’ enough - especially to those who live in Sheffield and constantly walk past its modest exterior without realising how good it is! I will definitely be back as I believe it’s a perfect spot for brunch and catching up...
Read moreIt’s quite disappointing to see the owner replying with false assumptions instead of acknowledging the real issues. We waited over an hour (specifically 1 hour and 20 minutes) for a can of Coke and guess what we never received it,which is simply unacceptable and disrespectful(but “the owner” replied that we have been checked many times by the waitress, that’s a complete joke)
As for the Prosecco situation: the glass was received after almost an hour, and it was served in a larger glass, not what was ordered. We paid for everything we ordered — your staff’s mistakes are not our responsibility.
Contrary to your claims, the waitress did not check on us several times. In fact, the service was almost non-existent.
Maybe if the owner(manager) spent more time focusing on the restaurant, he would have known what actually happened.
I’ve visited your restaurant three times before, but unfortunately, this was by far the worst experience. Instead of attacking customers, maybe take this as an opportunity to improve your service.
Absolutely appalling experience – avoid at all costs! If I could give zero stars, I would. We waited hours—yes, hours—just for a simple drink, which never even arrived. No explanation, no apology, just complete disregard for basic customer service. The staff were disorganized, indifferent, and seemed completely unbothered by the chaos they created. This place is a joke, and not a funny one. Total waste of time, money, and patience. I’ve had better service at vending machines. Never...
