Karahi is a Pakistani dish that gets its name from the wok like pan it is cooked or finished in. I had a lamb karahi in Prithiraj. Whatever meat or seafood used, it's a dish that should be full of tomato, ginger and garlicy flavours, cooked to melt into the sauce. Mine came with large lumps of just cooked onion (which is not part of a karahi recipe, unusually enough for a curry type dish) tomato slices - not cooked down and with the skin on, and slabs of green bell pepper. Looking around at other tables near ours, I saw those same lumps of inexpertly cut veg were in most of the dishes and could only conclude that there may be 1 or 2 already cooked curries/stews that are finished to order by a chef chucking in those lumps of veg to add last minute "fresh flavour" before it’s served up. Otherwise, I cannot imagine what on earth they were doing there! Additionally, it came swimming in oil. The Karahi pan cooled down pretty quickly, not keeping the curry warm, indicating it had not been cooked hot enough for long enough in the pan. The spicing was unsophisticated with hardly any chilli, though the meat was tender enough. However, the finishing touch was a mouth coated in nasty tasting grease. My partner had the mixed Tandoori which he said was cooked to submission, and again, appeared to cool at a surprising rate leaving a very dry selection of meats that if he had not had a yogurt sauce, would have been quite difficult to choke down! Wouldn’t need to go back and if you know anything about Indian/Pakistani cooking would suggest you try somewhere else. Sorry guys but your chef/s could do with some basic cutting skills and authentic...
Read moreWe came to the restraunt to eat in, we ordered the special biryani which was lovely tasting however as advertised curry had "prawns" . We was served chicken and lamb there was no prawns , when asked the waitor advised that 1 king prawn is put in the curry. We were left to feel like we were lying. Neither me or my partner had any prawns in the dish. Then to be charged £19.00 for the bhyrani dish was shocking. We wouldnt have minded if we had got what we asked for however the curry on the menu was cheaper . I felt that there was nothing but bad attitude from the waitor that evening. He advised they get a lot of "well known people in there and they dont complain" which in itself was not something you want to hear when spending lots of money in their restraunt. When leaving staff were stood at the bar and felt like they were sniggering. Was very uncomfortable. We go to a lot of indian restraunts and this has been by far our worst experience .
Dont order the special biryani if your...
Read moreFirst time here. Service exceptional - all waiters polite, attentive, checked on food at several intervals but just the right amount so as not to disturb or leave us feeling badgered. Food arrived promptly. I had the Jhil Jani (I think) Chicken with Garlic Rice, Garlic Naan and Onion Bhaji. The curry was lovely and thick with the sauce made authentically - lovely occasional bits of whole tomato leaving you with the faith that the dish had been cared for. Rice was new to me with some subtly roasted garlic adding that extra hit to satisfy my inner garlic fiend. Garlic Naan was perfect, light and fluffy and not greasy yet moist. Finally the bhaji were my favourites - usually I'm greeted with a dry interior but these were crunchy and crisp on the outside and lovely and moist on the inside. You could give me an entire bowl of them and I'd be happy! Very good experience, only wish it was in Huddersfield and not sheffield! Well done guys. Will be...
