I booked a table on the 28/07/2020. The pub had only a handful of customers. I ordered a pizza from their pared down menu. I was planning on catching up on some work, but the internet signal [specifically the WiFi signal] is extremely poor. When I queried it I was told that it was just a regular internet service - which I think meant that they are not interested in catering for those wishing to conduct business or work in their pub. The pizza was the size of a dinner plate, the sauce and topping was centre and the size of a tea cup saucer, with minimal topping. The dough was pale in colour and did not looked cooked, I respectfully asked them to take it away and finish cooking it. WHen it was returned it looked no better, I questioned the lack of sauce and topping, they offred to do me a new one, so great, I thought. When the next one arrived the sauce has been spread out so that it barely met the sides of the base, a slight improvement. It still did not look at all appetising, I accepted it. The base however was still under cooked and folded more link a wrap. I took one morsel and it had no taste. I went to the counter to ask for some salt and pepper. The barman didn't look at me in the eye, he virtually through a few packets of salt and pepper at me and turned way, no engaging with the customer or apology and certainly no charm. I decided that if this was the level of service and quality of food that they were happy to serve, then I wasn't prepared to accept it. I asked for the bill for my drink, took my plate to the counter and left. The waiting & kitchen staff were given ample opportunity to improve their offering but they didn't to any acceptable standard. With so few people frequenting their establishment, one would think that they would want to do better, provide the best food and service possible and encourage repeat visitors. My visit represents what is so frequently the standard of British pub provision. The poeple of S10 can happily frequent The Rising Sun, I however will not...
Read moreThis is a very busy and well loved pub, by both drinkers, food lovers and dog lovers alike. They have numerous real ales on tap and always a few guest ales. A good and varied selection of spirits and wines, plus all the favourite soft drinks. There are multiple rooms and outdoor seating available. A small carpark but plenty of places to park on the street outside. AND dog friendly. On my visit I was celebrating a birthday and even on a Thursday evening, at 6.30pm, the place was full. We had pre-booked and this is advisable. We took along my small dog and she was fussed and greeted by both staff and other dog lovers on the next table. They too had brought their dog and this link created a pleasant chat with strangers. As we were eating, they questioned us about the food and I was happy to say how great the food is. I had a delicious pie of Steak, mushroom and stout, with vegetables and chips. The pie changes regularly and the waitress advises on the filling. My companion had a piri-piri chicken burger with chips. Both were large and tasty. The food is hot, and served by friendly staff, who despite being busy, are prompt and helpful. There are all the traditional pub options available, plus a menu which changes regularly. Currently there is a delicious prawn ndjuna risotto, a kedgeree, oat crusted cod, pork cheeks and other dishes. The starters and desserts are also home-made and delicious including carrot and parsnip bhajis, truffled celeriac soup, mackerel pate, and Yorkshire rhubarb crumble, drunken sticky toffee pudding, pecan and maple sponge with rum sauce plus others... They also do a delicious Sunday roast on the appropriate week day. All are a reasonable price. I would highly recommend this delightful pub for a drink or meal.... you won't be...
Read moreWhile I've enjoyed a number of delicious ales at The Rising Sun over the years, this was the first time that we've eaten here. We weren't disappointed! I had lamb rump which was cooked to my idea of perfection, and my wife had cumin spiced carrots with braised lentils and chick peas. She said that it was the second best vegetarian meal she'd ever had (her top being an out of this world meal, some 15 years ago!). The puddings were amazing too - honey roasted peaches and rhubarb cheesecake.
I also have to mention the service too. Everyone we dealt with, from initial booking to leaving the pub was friendly and attentive, without being in-your-face, and our server (Sorry, didn't get his name, but he had the coolest moustache!) was funny and engaging, and was clearly enjoyed his job, and was enthusiastic about the food he was serving.
Thank you for a very enjoyable...
