The longest review you’ll ever read - Borgo started Instagram beef?
A Disappointing evening due to the wait for food and behaviour of the manager. It created a stressful and unhappy environment for us. We arrived at 8pm, the starters came at 9:17pm and the mains at 10:05pm which would alarm anybody with an appetite! The reaction of the management was basically to ignore our disappointment and ignore the reality of the situation. They offered us a free garlic bread and olives but that came 5 minutes before the starter anyway which we really appreciated but if we’d have known the wait was going to be a ridiculous 1hr 17 mins for food we might have declined and suggested a small discount instead.
I really enjoyed my food but, along with the wait, the main issue of the evening was the actual manager who just spoke over us condescendingly and didn’t acknowledge anything.
What’s more bizarre is seeing now they have taken to Instagram to try and explain it all away and ask their Instagram followers to blindly rate them 5 stars, which begs the question, is it all just for social media and ratings rather than the actual people dining in at the restaurant? I’ve seen a few negative reviews and they generally all say the same: slow/bad service.
I’m sure the kitchen was working very hard which is appreciated! A nut allergy was discussed when the lovely waitress took our order and she reassured us they frequently have people dine in with nut allergies and it’s the norm for them and not a problem! Also they have gluten free as an option on the menu and we told the waitress it was an intolerance not an allergy. So to see the restaurant posting they were delayed due to ensuring there were "no traces", while appreciated of course, feels like an exaggeration and simply an excuse for them instead of just admitting that they simply might have just overbooked.
We would never try and dissuade people from going to Borgo and having their own experiences - we have friends who have bookings and have told them to still go - so the instagram weird beef Borgo have posted, taking zero accountability gives off unprofessional vibes. If you open a restaurant, you surely have to be willing to receive good and bad reviews. And act upon the bad ones instead of ignoring or excusing them and then subsequently, asking your followers to review highly to bury them (I'm shocked I even have to write this sentence).
Anyway, the main trigger and reason for 1 star was the manager being very obnoxious/deflecting constantly and talking over us which essentially...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant last Saturday to celebrate a personal achievement and were really looking forward to the evening. It was a special occasion but unfortunately we were extremely disappointed.
One of the main specials that evening was the lobster pasta. Both my partner and I ordered it. Shortly afterwards, a table of regulars seated next to us ordered the same dish. To our shock, our waitress came back to inform us that we would not be able to have the lobster pasta because that other table had “pre-ordered” it. This was simply not true—we had just heard them order it after us. It was very clear that they prioritised their regulars over us, despite the fact that we were also paying customers and had ordered first.
This left us feeling insulted and dismissed, we understand wanting to accommodate for loyal customers, But we are also paying customers who spent over £200 that evening at what we thought was a highly regarded restaurant. What made it worse was the way it was handled. The waitress didn’t offer any alternatives or even bring us a menu back—we had to ask for it ourselves. The gesture of giving us a dish of olives as an “apology” felt more like a slap in the face, given that it’s the cheapest item they could possibly offer, and it did nothing to make up for the way we were treated. On top of that, the wine service was far below expectations for an establishment of this level. We ordered a quality bottle of wine, and you expect it to be served properly in a cooler with ice to keep it cold. Instead, no cooler was provided until we specifically asked, and when one was brought over, it had no ice in it. Unsurprisingly, the wine became warm very quickly. For a restaurant that positions itself at this standard, this kind of basic service should not be overlooked. For a restaurant of this price point, the customer service was shockingly poor. We’ve honestly received far better treatment at chain restaurants, where at least you feel respected as a guest. This was meant to be a special evening, but instead we left feeling disheartened and...
Read moreI had been to several Italian restaurants before, like in Chester, Ledds or Manchester or in another one in Sheffield, where there was also a nice atmosphere reminiscent of Italy, but for me, a Pole who visited Rome and Orvieto a few weeks ago, this restaurant gives the greatest substitute for memories of what I saw there. So if you have never visited Italy. And you want to feel this atmosphere, I recommend this restaurant! The food is delicious! For me, a former soldier who had to eat all kinds of pasta dishes for a dozen or so years, which were supposed to satisfy caloric hunger, I later had a great aversion to pasta. And only in Orvieto, eating carbonara at the urging of a friend, I understood how different this execution is than in this MRE, and yesterday, eating regular pasta with tomato sauce again, I was once again impressed! It was delicious! atmosphere and service very nice. price wise, although I didn't pay for the meal because I was invited to a birthday party, I had a chance to see the price list, and it's closer to the word cheap, and the quality of the drinks, they are as strong as we expect! without any misinformation in some percentage. I will definitely go back there with my girlfriend on a date and I will also gladly show my 9-year-old daughter so she can feel the atmosphere of Italy. great that we have such a place in Sheffield. And with one I felt strange. But in a good way. There are tens of thousands of Poles and my countrymen in this city, I suspect that there are many times fewer Italians. But comparing our places where we meet, our restaurants. We do not have such an atmosphere that reflects our native place. However, Italians here transfer their tradition to another place. I envy them for that. Although I know that...
