As a group of 4 aged over 60 we took advantage of the 40% discount offer and booked a table for an evening out. First issue was queing for 10 minutes to get in the door and be seated, seemed to be delays booking people in. We were taken through and seated and the waitress then left us without taking a drinks order. We waited a while and then went to the bar and ordered our own drinks. The young barman on his own was very busy and appeared to be trying to train a new employee while also serving people with drinks. I asked if there were any cheaper options on wine as it stated £9 for a small pinot on the wine list at the table. He said no there wasn't and when I mentioned that I considered £9 for a small glass of wine extreme he said it was because the Clock Warehouse is a distillery! what that has to do with the price of wine I have not a clue so I had half a cider instead. We returned to the table and eventually a waiter arrived. We had especially come to sample the mixed grill and sea bass and tikka chicken so we all knew what we wanted to eat. We were told there were no mixed grills, no chicken curry and no sea bass available, disappointing. So a steak was chosen by my husband, well done, when he was halfway through it was pink inside but too late at that point to send it back. My friend chose Steak and Malbec pie, arrived with a small bit of mash, small portion of green veg and no carrot, she asked for her carrot and was given two slivers of carrot, not really as described in the menu, why not a whole carrot? My friends husband ordered the roast lamb rump with mini pie and mini it was including the lamb rump. The best meal was my gammon which I cannot fault. There was quite a wait for the food but we felt sorry for the couple on the next table who sat down about 15 minutes after us, ordered food and sat and waited and waited and then a waitress arrived with their pudding and they had not even had their main course so ofcourse she took the pudding back but nobody checked in with them to explain where their food was, they ordered another drink and asked about their main course which then arrived about 15 minutes later, scampi, the gentleman asked for the tartar sauce to be told "oh we don't have any", I would have been really annoyed, you are serving fish and chips and scampi and no tartar sauce which is the normal addition. Overall we were very disappointed. Not enough staff on to cope, no kitchen planning to cope with large numbers and orders, alcohol prices excessive, your staff clearly stressed and under pressure and therefore not delivering a good customer experience. We will definately never come back and we will definately...
Read moreThe Clock Warehouse in Shardlow offers an exceptional dining experience, especially if you appreciate a venue steeped in history. Housed in a converted mill dating back to 1780, the pub is beautifully situated along the Trent and Mersey Canal, adding to its charm and appeal. My friends and I visited on Saturday afternoon and were immediately taken by the venue's atmosphere. The blend of historic character with modern comfort makes it an inviting place to relax and enjoy a meal. The selection of cask ales is impressive, with options like pedigree served straight from the barrel, adding an authentic touch to the experience. The staff at the Clock Warehouse deserve special mention for their friendliness and efficiency. They were quick to serve and always ready to assist, making the overall service enjoyable and stress-free. The menu is vast and caters to a variety of tastes, featuring everything from starters and pub classics to specials and puddings, including vegan options. The meals were well-presented, with generous portions that arrived promptly, which is always a plus when dining out with a group. The food was delicious, and the prices were very reasonable, which was a pleasant surprise. The interior is beautifully maintained, and the entire venue is clean and tidy, reflecting the care taken by the staff. There's also a large outdoor seating area, perfect for sunny days. Overall, the Clock Warehouse is a gem of a pub, offering a great combination of history, good food, and excellent service. It's a place I'd gladly return to and highly recommend to others. A note to add _ the kitchen door slamming e every now and then is ruining the calm ambient inside. Urgent...
Read moreVery scenic situation next to the canal. Wanted to seat 4 of us at a coffee table in the bar ,we asked to be moved as how can you eat a meal at a coffee table? Then seated at a very small table which we thought was big enough for 2 people as the table next to us had 2 people and just enough room for 2 plates, but we were prepared to sit there when the lady who seemed to be in charge asked us if we wanted to go downstairs as the people it was booked for hadn't arrived and were 20 mins late, better seating as now 2 tables for 4 of us. Main food was ok , small portions though for price , £4.25 for Cauliflower cheese ! Bit expensive if you ask me. Sunday dinner looked ok but Red cabbage was pretty tasteless , 1 massive parsnip and 2 carrots doesn't count as meat with fresh vegetables . Couple of roast taties but no mash? 1 massive Yorkshire. Chicken was a leg with 1 slice of breast. Think need to look at prices as not value for money . Had to ask for more gravy too. Beef and ale pie looked shop bought , mash and 3 carrots and broccoli a bit stingy for nearly £14.! , dessert was supposed to be Chocolate Brownie Sundae, came in a small soup bowl !! One and a half scoops vanilla and one scoop chocolate ice-cream , a dribble of chocolate sauce and a flake, one brownie shared between 3 of us!! When asked waitress, said had run out of sundae dishes!! £6 for a small bowl of ice-cream!! The staff didn't seem to know what they were doing as we had 2 different customers drinks delivered to our table twice and the tray was just left on the table edge . Don't think we will be returning,...
