The wobbly wanderer and tricky Trevor were visiting Shardlow for a day out. Having left our cars at The Clockhouse Pub (intending to lunch there later)we followed the Canal towpath alongside various narrow boats and eventually found the Malt Shovel and being both thirsty and hungry we decided to call in. The pub has a large carpark and plenty of room outside for eating and drinking. I opted for a pint of San Miguel and Ticky went for a mineral water Being hungry we opted for a couple of meals from their (good) selection. Read moreOur favourite pub in Shardlow. Staff very friendly, fun, and inviting. Friday fish and chips are absolutely amazing. Awesome selection of beers. The pork pies with complementary pickles are just too good to miss! We always take a couple home for a late night feast!
The only pub I've ever been to with board games printed on every table with pieces available behind the bar. Full selection of games from kids snakes and ladders to monopoly and Scrabble.
Not forgetting the beautiful wood burning stove set centrally within the pub.
Live music quite regular too and always a great laugh.
A must visit for anyone visiting the fabulous historical canal port...
Read moreDelicious home cooked food. Chicken pie was packed with filling, served with beautifully crispy home made chips and plenty of veg on the side.....broccoli, cauli, carrots and sugar snap peas, not your usual boring garden peas......and the gravy was so tasty!
The fish was huge, the burgers very tasty, the roast dinner was also excellent and comes in different sizes depending on your appetite.
There was 7 of us all ordering different meals and they all came out at the same time too.
