My daughter booked a table for 4 for the evening of the 30/12 for her partners birthday. When we arrived (table was 6.45pm) so it wasnât a late booking but it was already very busy. We were sat down and given menus and I asked the waitress (Ellie I think) for a gluten free menu so she advised me to check on her device which I did. There wasnât a huge choice but I didnât say anything as I really dislike making a fuss about my intolerance when eating out. She advised us of dishes that were no longer available that evening for everyone on the table which although we were disappointed we accepted as it was between Christmas and New Year. My husband made another choice along with my daughter and her partner and then I asked for a little help with my limited menu. She checked with the kitchen as the only starter that was available for myself was a breadcrumbed terrine which the kitchen said I could have without the breadcrumbs but after checking again with the kitchen, there was no gluten free bread so they were offering me a terrine with nothing to eat it with! The poor waitress was very embarrassed and we were very sympathetic towards her. I then asked which gluten free main course was available and looking at the menu it was again a choice of 1 dish (apart from steaks which I donât eat) and that was salmon without the sauce or noodles so I asked if I could have chips with this and was told yes but the kitchen werenât happy sending out a piece of salmon with chips as it didnât look good! We decided to leave and go elsewhere as the thought of eating a terrine with no bread, toast or crackers and then salmon and chips was not appealing at all. My daughter had called when making the reservation and advised of my intolerance and asked if there would be choices for me or if it would be a problem and was assured it was absolutely fine. We eat out in the area quite a bit and everywhere else we have eaten does not make it a problem to have a dietary requirement and always have lots of choice and certainly never make me feel that Iâm being difficult! The poor waitress had to check with the kitchen at least 4/5 times to see if they were willing to offer anything that was slightly appetising. She completely understood when we told her we had decided to go somewhere else, we paid for our drinks and left. We then went to the fabulous Indian Restaurant just down from there, the Maha-Bharat who couldnât be more helpful and offered me many dishes to choose from. They treated us exactly how all the other venues in the area do and it highlighted how poor the experience at the Severn Stars had been. Very disappointed to receive such service for a food intolerance that...
Read moreWednesday evening what a disaster! I saw a notice as we entered the pub/restaurant and it said "Staff Required". I jokingly said to my partner that's not very encouraging is it. However, as he was hungry we proceeded into the bar and ordered our drinks whilst looking what to order off the menu. I ordered the goats cheese salad with butternut squash and beetroot - sounded nice but I can honestly say it was the worst salad I have ever had. It looked like someone had just emptied a whole packet of cress on a large plate, dropped a goats cheese in the middle, hardly any beetroot and the butternut looked stale and was tasteless. I left most of the cress as I am not a rabbit ! Would have been so much better if there had been far less cress and more beetroot and the butternut cooked fresh - it looked l,ike it was somebody else's leftovers from the day before, cold and brown at the edges! YUK
My partner order the chorizo spagetti - a great big plate ful but when he tasted it was not impressed and decided not to eat it after tasting the first mouthful. As we went out to the car park he said that chorizo spaggetii cost me ÂŁ14.95 and bearing in mind he was hungry was not a happy boy! On reflection we should have complained at the time but when the waitress took the plates away I think she would have noticed that our meals were barely touched and should have enquired what was wrong with the food.
We decided to go back to my partner's holiday home and I prepared stuffed figs, a selection of cheeses, liver pate, tomato and homemade plum chutney and a nice bottle or red. As he was ravenous by this time he demolished everything on his plate and said I don't know why we bothered to go out!
We will definitely not go back there. I might add that this is the first time I have complained about a meal in a pub restaurant. How do places like this survive we...
Read moreThe manager Claire is ruining this pub, making very damaging false accusations against customers, telling people itâs her pub, and banning people because she doesnât like them not because they have done anything wrong. During her shift at the seven stars Claire stormed round to a pub myself and my partner were in to shout and scream at my partner and his friend for an ongoing issue that was nothing to do with her, shouting that they were banned from âher pubâ she then made serious accusations (serious, disgusting and damaging accusations) against my partner and rang the police! My partner distraught on hearing this went to speak to the actual manager (Neil!) who unfortunately was on a day off spoke to a very Helpful South African member of staff that accessed the CCTV clearly showing my partner the whole time he was in the pub doing absolutely nothing wrong! Disgusting lies, unprofessional trouble making because of Claireâs personal dislike for a person! Claire seems to like drama and trouble, thank goodness people know that Claire is nothing but a trouble maker as weeks have gone by since this happened and no surprise to see the police have not been in touch because it was a disgusting lie fabricated by Claire that could of been very damaging for my partner. (We have kept copyâs of the CCTV that shows my partner clearly...
