This is an amazing little gem that has a growing air of celebrity attached to it - Jane Baxter, the chef patron has written cookbooks on the health benefits of food relating to the menopause that has gained a significant following, and support from Davina. waiting list but worth the wait. An informal setting where you may find yourself sitting with other guests, and presented with an amazing menu that you don't choose from - you eat it all! To be honest, it's a meal of three parts - some excellent and interesting starters that smack of quality and expert cooking and which almost fill you up. Then a large main course, excellently cooked, but which have you loosening your trousers if you taste the (in our case) two meat and two vegetable dishes, followed by 3 desserts. I am not a foodie as such and my perspective is as an interested person who has to eat. The starters were outstanding, the mains great, and the puddings delicious, but the enjoyment of multiple, small and sophisticated dishes was overwhelmed when the mains and dessert arrived. I was astonished at the outstanding value and my preference would have been for 14 smaller dishes at twice the price (rather than the 14 we had). I would have been able to walk away in comfort, appreciated the excellence, and still felt I had experienced a rare and...
Read moreWon a voucher and booked for a two course evening. Arrived to long communal picnic benches with sheepskins on the seats. Nice simple decor and everything clean. I was facing the wall but my husband was facing the kitchen. He enjoyed watching what was going on. Theme of food this evening was Turkish and all the dishes were delicious, especially the lamb and the flatbread, in fact everything we tried we enjoyed. Dessert was amazing, five different ones to try. Dishes are bought to the tables in bowls and everyone digs in for all the food. Good portion sizes, not too little. Only thing I would say is bring your own drink as none sold. They charge minimal corkage. As you are on communal benches you chat with everyone on the table so ok if you don't mind meeting randoms over dinner. I enjoyed chatting but my husband felt a bit squished in. Being big stature he kept bumping and elbowing the bench behind. He would have preferred a quieter time, however, that is not the whole point of the place. Great food, nice atmosphere, would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to try something different not just a boring table for two...
Read moreThis was a restaurant experience like no other. We shared a table with six others and it was great. The food comes out and is passed around and shared. All very sociable. The starters were like a tasting menu, varied and different. There was plenty to eat, don't have lunch is my recommendation! The food itself was very high quality indeed, every dish interesting and some thought provoking. The main was cooked to perfection. There were three puddings, I found them light and tasty which was the perfect end to the meal. All in all a great evening, a gastronomic experience, we are looking forward to returning. I recommend arriving early to get to know your fellow diners before the main...
