No atmosphere limited menu pie chips peas chips hard peas hard no ale in steak pie steak far from tender a fellow guest same with there mash potato which appeared to be packet top crust of pie only covered half the bowl we truly believe this was bought pie crust due to the taste or lack there of no part of the meal me and my fellow guests thought was seasoned 2 members of staff who appeared to find there work laborious the reason for this comment is there is no plesenterious at the bar or the serving of meal we was absolutely appalled as one our guests had a small breakfast with toast and this establishment offered nothing but butter to summarise to pay 13 pounds for a half cooked meal with no seasoning and a small breakfast for nearly 8 pounds that was bland to say the least I find in today's economical climate absolutely appalling further more I expressed my displeasure to the barman on departure and confirmed my review of my experience would be extremely honest I also detailed numerous issues of the meal that I would be pointing out...

Let me tell you about a ‘little gem’ we found off the main high street in Totnes. We arrived at 6.30pm. We sat upstairs, we weren’t supposed too. (Only when they are busy they said). The 4 of us ordered our meals, 2 soups and 2 steak and ale pies.(plus a 12”pizza) The soup came , it was definitely homemade and was thick and very very tasty (each one came with a whole fresh cut baguette with butter). This was beautiful! The one pie had chips and the other mash with garden peas puff pastry top in a thick gravy. Again plenty of everything in the plate and the pie, wow! It was definitely one of the best I’ve ever had! We will go back there again and will tell all our friends to make a beeline for this place next time they are in Totnes! Special mention for the slightly older lady (hope she doesn’t mind me calling her that) serving the meals, great sense of humour, really friendly ‘sorta told us off nicely for sitting upstairs ‘she made the night as anything we wanted was no problem at all! WOW! had lunch here with the family one Sunday and really enjoyed it, I'll be honest I thought it was a typical carvery with dry meat and soggy cabbage. But no. But to start off, the landlord is a real gent, very pleasant and very helpful. As for the food the word fresh springs to mind. All of the meat was perfectly cooked and the pie (which was my choice) was absolutely beautiful. Freshly made and has plenty of meat which melts in the mouth, if you go on a Sunday pho e up and book (well try to as they're very busy) a table. We got lucky on the 11/2/18. 1 more thing. They made a veggie lasagne for my aunty. I really enjoyed having lunch in the calm environment next to a open fire on a freezing cold day (it did snow slightly in the south west of the UK, just a little bit) and ice cold winds.
