DO NOT RECOMMEND. DONT EAT HERE!
Went in on Thursday, I sat down at a table where it seemed I was ignored, the atmosphere was very stuffy and stressful. I was then nagged at by an angry woman to move. I wouldn’t mind but she was very rude. The table I was moved to was even worse!! Sticky table, and dirty menus. Also the carpet flooring was stained and grubby. The poor girls working were getting nagged at. I feel so sorry for anyone who has the trouble of working here. I ordered a slice of cake and some scones, the slice of cake they delivered to me was tiny, and even smaller after they dropped a chunk of it on my shoe without realising, I got a Napkin and cleaned it up, I felt too intimidated by the rude manager to ask for any help. The food I was given was cold and tasted of nothing. Cakes dry with pathetic portion size, tasting like cardboard, and scones tiny and rock solid. Prices were ridiculous. £5.95 for a tiny slice of cake. Coffees so hot I burnt the roof of my mouth, with no warning of temperature! Cutlery, plates, and mugs looked dirty. I could hear a racket from the kitchen while sat at my table. I finished eating and asked for my bill. An angry rude man told me to just pay the money he demanded. He spoke so rudely to me that other customers turned around in shock. I payed the amount he said, pretty sure I was over charged but by then was too tired and annoyed to continue any interactions. Before leaving I went to the bathroom, men’s bathroom was dirty and small....
Read moreBizarre experience here today. While passing through Totnes on the way home from Cornwall I went in to this tearoom to look for a takeaway scone. (I was determined to have one but didn't have time to sit in as we had a long drive back to London and needed to return our hire car on time) It looked like a lovely cafe and had a great cake selection. At first the lady was very helpful and accommodating and offered to put some jam and cream in takeaway cups so that I could have my scone to go. While I was waiting I used the toilet which didn't have any toilet paper, so I politely requested some. It came with a smile. I went back down to pay for my scone, which came to £2.50. Unfortunately I had just put a lot of my change in the church collection pot for candle lighting and I only had £2. I had a credit card but the lady said she couldn't take it for only £2.50. Out of options I suggested she put an extra charge on the order to cover the credit card fee, she disappeared into the back and an angry looking man came out asking if he could help me. I explained the situation and he rudely told me to be on my way unless I could return with the correct money. I'm not sure what made them so upset, maybe that I wanted a takeaway, needed loo roll in the toilet and had the audacity to ask to pay on card? I'm not sure but I managed to get the exact same product with a smile at the Cornish Bakery 2 doors down. A shame as I would much rather support...
Read moreMy mother was recently discharged from hospital following a serious operation and so I decided to treat her to an afternoon in Totnes with a cream tea at Anne of Cleves while I was holidaying in the UK. It was an absolute disaster, all due to the miserable old man that seems to be running the business into the ground. I’m not going to say the food was bad, and the poor girls working there don’t deserve such a terrible review since they’re the ones putting all the effort in. The cantankerous owner was rude and dismissive when I simply asked for a bill showing what I was being charged for. A simple request one would think. But he just ignored us and continued serving another table, to come back and say “Are you going to pay now?” I insisted on the bill and he demanded I just pay the total he wanted. You ruined our day and if it hadn’t been for my mother being there and having just recovered, it would have been a different story! I’ve never been spoken to like that and we certainly didn’t deserve your disgusting attitude. Given that you find simple hospitality so challenging you’d be wise to do your customers a favour and quit before you meet someone less tolerant of your utter incompetence and...
