So we visited Totnes on the Sunday of a bank holiday where many eateries were closed. This place seemed nice with its outdoor ā€œpop-upā€ terrace to enjoy the last of this summer’s alfresco dining! I went in the pub to order which is very nicely done out, a lot smaller than it looks from outside but a nice cosy atmosphere. We ordered two burgers and a ham sandwich for my 2yr old (nothing else on the menu for him really, it would be nice to see a children’s section but maybe they don’t want kids there really, hey-ho..) with a few glasses of coke and a fruit shoot came to just under Ā£50. Somewhat steep if I’m honest. The guy behind the bar who served me was very good, polite, friendly etc. The food came out via the waitress who asked us if we wanted any sauces etc, promptly brought them before rushing off. Fair enough she was busy so I’ll let her off, admittedly we did have burgers, but, some cutlery for the salad and chips would of been good!!! The beef in the burgers was clearly high quality, very tasty too. The ham sandwich was good quality too. Overall a good experience but a bit pricey really so...

Partner and I made an impromptu stop to find somewhere for lunch in Totnes, on our way home from Cornwall. Glad we chose this pub for a quick bite to eat and a pint.

Fantastic burger, good quality meat and cooked perfectly.

Simple, tasty roast beef dinner.

Both meals thoroughly enjoyed!

Good choice of drinks.

The standout aspect was that, whilst pubs everywhere are struggling with staffing levels since covid hit, this has also caused pubs everywhere to struggle with their service standards too. The whole front of house operation here appeared to be ONE young man working alone, in a venue busy enough to have to turn diners away because of a full tables! He was polite, courteous and helpful, all whilst working harder and more efficiently than I've seen entire teams recently in other venues. He probably deserves a pay rise, as if it's not his own business then he's definitely saving it for someone else!

Look forward to definitely visiting...

Friendly professional front of house staff, good food and comfy bed. Downside, breakfast doesn't start till 1000 on 2 mornings a week, much too late if you want to make most of your time. One morning we arrived to be told no breakfasts that day as new fridges being installed. No one had told us but Never mind, went to Morrisons and had good breakfast there. Finally, next day we went down and front of house person took our order and all appeared well. She was really friendly and really nice and breakfast arrived and was amazing. But then banging doors from kitchen throughout our meal, swearing "f" word and clearly a very unhappy situation in kitchen. We felt uncomfortable and decided despite the lovely breakfast and friendly girl behind counter, we would not return on our last morning but instead go out again to Morrisons. Fire door wedged open with fire extinguisher by cleaner. So sad as the front of house staff throughout the day could not have...

Its Friday at 5pm, the weekend is here! When in Totnes we normally go for a pint in the Seven stars....but its shut. So, the chance to try this pub which we have passed by on hundreds of occasions. From the outside it looks big and imposing.....and smart On the inside its teeny tiny in comparison!! They had Jail ale and Hip hop lager which are our favourites....after that it went downhill. Toilets dirty, could do with a general update and there was dust on the ledges. They do serve food and have daily offers. Hey ho...good pint though!

We have heard how good this pub is for a while & finally tried it. We were not disappointed. We were seated near some regulars who had come from Brixham, they had been coming for years! The food was excellent, plenty on the plate, well cooked, with plenty of veg & extra gravy for the roast. A good selection on the menu, a well stocked bar with good ales. Highly recommend this pub, in fact we are meeting friends soon from Newton Abbott.
