We came in for just a cup of tea, the cakes and food looked amazing! And people were very clearly enjoying it! I got a tea with soy milk, the soy milk had some combined proteins in it leading to some "bits" I understand this happens so I'm very used to it, however on closer inspection there was a little bit of metal, looked as though it had come from a metal scourer. I went over to the till and the lady that served me was extremely understanding and apologetic, poured me a fresh soy and I was happy to move on ❀

However, while I was waiting for my new soy, I was quite abruptly questioned as to what I wanted by another member of staff. I have a feeling he may have been a owner/manager maybe, he asked me what I wanted and I responded "oh I'm just waiting for my soy milk" he then walked over and asked the staff why I needed new soy, and then said in quite a rash tone "it's normal for soy to have bits, that's what its like!?" I was a bit shocked by the sudden change in tone and atmosphere, when it wasnt even the proteins I was worried about it was the metal! Before I could respond the lovely lady serving me told him she was sorting it and then proceeded to apologize to me again for how he'd spoken to me.. it's a shame because otherwise it was such a lovely place and environment..

I'm hoping I just caught him on a bad day and he was just tired of people asking about the soy proteins, assuming I was doing the same. But it had made me want to drink and leave quite quickly. I didn't end up feeling as welcomed as I had when I came in, which is a shame because this place really is lovely and the tea was genuinely one of the best teas ive had!

Overall I would seriously recommend this place, the entire aesthetic and message they have is unique and comforting, I believe that it was a case of the busy monday blues maybe, the caused the little confrontation. I don't think it would stop me from coming...

Quirky. Hippy. Weird. Artisan. Bespoke. Unique.

I love it. I am a big meat eater, I love steak still bleeding when it is on my plate, but I do love a very varied and mixed diet. When it comes to food, I have 1 rule. If I've not tried it, try it and I do always look for different things, and always try and get the quirkiest thing when I am out.

Although a big meat eater, I do love a lot of vegan foods and this place, when I saw this weird little shop, I just had to pop in.

I am more conscious what I eat and try and eat many things in moderation, and to make a change from a mineral water, the smoothies I just had to try one. She got the antioxidant smoothie, she enjoyed it, but I found it a bit sharp for my liking. I just had to go for the weirdest one I could see, the magic mushroom one. I loved the earthy taste and just made a really nice change. When we had finished with our beakers, they kindly took them off us to recycle.

We were stopping in Torquay for a week and this particular day was doing the round robin trip. We liked Totnes and was hoping to visit the town for a 2nd time this past week, but just ran out of days. Secretly I wanted to visit this place again to try a different flavour.

If you walk past this place and unsure to try something. Just try it. Great selection, and the staff were...

Well, what an odd experience. My Wife and I are new to the area and we popped in to Totnes this afternoon and had a lovely time. We decided to have a coffee and took a seat outside this cafe. We noticed it closed at 4 so had a brief discussion and agreed we could drink up and be gone within 20 mins. I ventured inside and had a lovely welcome from a young man who guided me to the till to place my order. At the till I was met by a woman who refused to take my order because "we close in 20 minutes" Wow!! What an attitude. I mean, she could have clarified with me that the cafe closes in 20 minutes but no. That's not only ÂŁ8 lost but also future business. I'm assuming the lady is not the owner because If I were I'd be taking every penny even if it meant working on a few minutes. If she is then it's a very odd way of doing business especially when there's so much competition. I was then offered a take-out but, it's ok I'd already decided to take my business elsewhere. Bizarrely there were still other customers seated at tables. All was not lost as we found another venue in the town where our...

So we visited Totnes recently and decided to have a coffee at a local cafe. We came across a small café called 'The Hairy Barista'. The place was packed so we sat outside. My wife went in and ordered a coffee and cake while I waited. It took ages before she came back with a piece of cake and a glass of water. Unfortunately, the glass of water was dirty and looked like the glass hadn't been cleaned. The plate that the piece of cake was on (which was quite nice) also had multiple chips which is not good from a food establishment. When the coffee finally arrived it seemed just a standard coffee from a machine. However, it came in a mug with no plate and a spoon which was placed on the table which also hadn't been cleaned from the previous people. Therefore, I had to polish the fork and spoon to be able to use them. Overall, I think the place was so busy that standards involving cleanliness and infection control had slipped somewhat. Therefore, the next time I visit Totnes I will try a different establishment. There are other places in Totnes, so do give them a try also.

Great place for a coffee, cake and vegan lunch. We came here mostly because of its plant based menu, and were pleasantly surprised by the outdoor seating area and amazing vibes. I had a delicious mozzarella and pesto sandwich - the bread was crispy and the filling was fresh. My gf had the salmon and cream cheese bagel - not quite as good, the ‘salmon’ is carrot and although yummy wasn’t mind blowing, but still a decent lunch item. The coffee was really really good though. And we had a matcha, vanilla and chocolate mousse cake - yummy but not mind blowing again. The staff were nice and it had a proper community vibe, and we got chatting to some regular customers who were so friendly. We were mostly happy to be sitting in the garden by the water fountain, with beautiful umbrella shades and south east Asia vibes. We definitely recommend this place for a nice lunch and coffee if you’re in totnes!! Also dog friendly :)

We visited this coffee shop / cafe whilst on a random visit to the area. Usually the coffee shops with quirky names have the best drinks and snacks on offer. This may not be the place for you to go if you like the normal offerings! The pastries and things on offers all seemed to have a funky little twist, aside from the staple offering of pain au chocolate etc. My partner loved his coffee and said it was a brilliant cup, unfortunately I did not enjoy my hot chocolate and found it quite unpalatable. I became a bit concerned that I may have been given the ‘mushroom hot choc’ 😂 I don’t think it’s anything to blame the cafe for though, I just didn’t enjoy this particular mix / blend. The cakes and pastries were very fresh, and tasted great.
