Wow, so unbelievably shocked with some of these bad reviews. For a hardworking team trying to pick up after previous owners and bad reviews, it’s proving quite difficult to make a change. Prices of food have been adjusted according to prices of suppliers, currently the UK is going through a cost of living crisis - this shouldn’t affect hospitality by the sound of some of these reviews! The cafe aims to provide a choice of food for most people who come through, trying to incorporate so much choice is difficult and yet.. they do it! Ranging from special milks, curries, traditional English pasties, cakes etc.. they seem to have it all! Also for a Totnes standard - the prices aren’t that bad, as we know. Totnes is an artisan town and the prices do reflect that. The staff are lovely and kind - very hard working and happy unless not treated with kindness, which does happen often in hospitality & customer service. Trying to make a place better after years of an undesirable reputation is tricky - let’s help these new owners to get where they need to be.. supported and smiled at. As some will know, I am the daughter of the owners, we are a family that works hard to make this place comfortable and interesting both for staff and lovely...

My partner & I called for a strawberry cream tea midway through a walk in the area. We asked how we would gain access to the delightful sunny garden as we had 3 dogs. It was like getting blood out of a stone to get access to the garden. The garden is hardly delightful a few flowers, tables not cleared & definitely in need of a tidy up. Our cream tea was served & my partner noticed his cup was dirty so asked for another. This one actually had lipstick on so a 3rd cup was requested, this one was ok. The cream tea was acceptable though we were served the smallest amount of cream we had ever been served. To which the lad who served us commented "thinking about the calories" 🤔. As tourists we are unlikely to ever visit there again & noticing that they have been given 5* for hygiene I think that is unjustified. AVOID AT ALL COSTS! If I could give it a -5 I would!!! The WORST and I mean WORST cafe of all time!! Awful place the food tasted disgusting, tuna tasted like corned beef very slow service! Worst of all the staff attitude towards its customers and staff very rude we were treated appallingly no respect at all. The atmosphere was dyer! We came as a party of 5 one being our pregnant friend who was spoken to so rudely and who got served once and then order got deleted because a local came in they wiped her order off the till and made her wait a further 10 minutes to then say what she wanted to order again. To then sit down for 10 minutes and be told there would be a further 20 minute wait as they had forgotten to put the jacket potato on! Whereby this time we’d already eaten ours! White haired women with glasses avoid she isn’t capable of running a cafe she can’t crack a smile yet alone serve a coffee! Safe to say we won’t ever be returning! Or recommending to...
