A walk by the beautiful Sandhaven Beach in South Shields, followed by a pleasant meal in the highly rated ā€˜Italianish’ restaurant 😃 A unique fusion of Italian cuisine (all the chefs and the owner are Italian!) and Spanish cuisine, the presentation of dishes served makes the mouth water. Why Spanish? The Italian head chef spent a good amount of time in Spain - loved it - and incorporated Spanish elements in the cuisine served. We had some tapas, a vegetable Paella, and the Happy Hour menu - Zuppa Del Giorno & Empanadas as starters, and mains were authentic Spaghetti carbonara & Tagliatelle San Lorenzo. The spaghetti carbonara? Oooof. Amazing. Supposedly served with Guanciale, we don’t eat pork, so we asked for chicken. Superb. No cream cheese added at all - the texture, how rich it was. The Zuppa Del Giorno (a vegetarian soup) was Michelle’s favourite. A cheesy thick tomato based creamy soup with generous amounts of vegetables. There’s a reason as to why the reviews are so good here - go get some fresh sea air by the beach, and then have a nice Italian meal here 😁

What can I say about this place! Nothing will compare unless you try yourselves. From entering you are made to feel completely at ease and so welcome. Working a 12 hour shift and walking in to the place to know the owner knows your order before you ask. Ive never been in a food place before where the owner comes and has a conversation with you and takes the time to talk besides taken your order. He is absolutely the lushest most accommodating owner I have ever come across. He knows one of his starters is my absolute fave and I can't eat it anywhere else since I tried it here but that isn't the only reason I keep returning. The hospitality, care and comfort is one of the reasons aswel. I walk through the door with my partner and we are remember with a cuddle for me and a handshake for my partner. Anyone who reads this review and is considering going here. Do it. You will not be disappointed.. but dont eat all my bruschetta šŸ˜

Im going to start by saying if your just coming in here for a beer and a pizza then you will have a great time. On that merit alone it would have been 5 star review all the way. Unfortunately though that isn't the case. On this occasion giovanni I believe he is called visibly tutted when I entered alone and clearly didnt want to serve me, he came round in the end though and was pleasent once i was well into my meal. Now here's where the food gets a bit weird. Every starter I have had the past 3-4 visits has had no taste and is meh at best. I appreciate the attempt of nice plating but the lack of seeeeasoning makes my soul upset. The pizza I had for main was banging as usual though. They haven't disappointed me yet. Work on the starter and pasta game and this place could be great. Would recommend though šŸ‘Œ

Very confused by the high ratings here. Overall they put lots effort into making a plate pretty but with no substance. Purple flavourless splodges that add nothing to the flavour (actually made it worse as tasted bad), some green crumb on everything that had no flavour and lots of micro greens around tiny portions. It's like they put loads of effort into the presentation so they can serve small portions of average food and get away with it. Ordered calamari and got 4 rings. The baked aubergine was probably the best but hardly any cheese or tomato so essentially half a baked/steamed aubergine. Then the mains were confusing. I love polenta and Ragu but the plate came with a massive pile of flavourless Ragu and one small ladle of sauce. It was supposed to be a beef and pork Ragu with sausage, but I saw no beef or pork and just a couple of scraps of sausage. The sauce tasted ok but after a few spoonfuls I had non left and just flavourless polenta. The chicken dish my friend got had some tasty chips and that was the highlight (of an Italian restaurant) although he didn't enjoy the chicken as it had a strange texture like it had been pre-cooked and not fresh. Maybe we ordered badly but the poor portion sizes and confusion pointless decoration could not be ignored. The waiter asked if everything was ok with the mains and I pointed out the lack of sauce and masses of polenta and he just smiled and then said nothing to the chef, so nothing was done and they were not bothered.

It was also pretty cold inside which wasn't that pleasant, although I know that's...

Came here for a meal with my girlfriend as we were interested in the Italian/Spanish mixture of meals. We both ordered from the happy hour menu which had very nice prices.

I ordered the empanadas as a starter and was very impressed. However, I then ordered a Spaghetti Carbonara and my girlfriend a Penne Arrabiata, both of these meals arrived with a bright green finish around the outside of our plates, which at first struck us as strange as the bright colour didn’t not complement the creamy/tomato nature of our meals. It turned out to be Basil oil, this didn’t not go well with the food we had ordered and the very earthy taste took away from the flavour of the meals themselves. It pooled at the bottom of the bowls and ruined the last parts of the meal as the flavour of the oil was very intense. In the correct circumstances I can see this oil working well, but on the incorrect dishes it can ruin the experience. I’d greatly recommend asking if it is on the food before ordering.

As well as this, though the restaurant had a nice interior, the tables were placed very closely together and though it was relatively empty when we arrived, customers were being seated extremely close to one another which wasn’t the most comfortable.

Overall, we did have an adequate experience here but it’s not somewhere that struck us as exceptional.

Overall I’d...
