The Smithy Cafe — Restaurant in South Tyneside

Second time being here ...food is OK probably as good as it gets for a cafe but problem I have is the price to portions. Now I'm nowhere near a gargantuan eater but I ordered a chicken curry with rice and I'm sure it's either 6.95 or 7.95 more than an actual Chinese restaurant but no where near a portion size of an actual Chinese restaurant. In fact when plate was put in front of me I thought it was a p.ss take to be honest. Nice enough for a chicken curry but to have mushrooms you had to pay extra and I didn't ask about onions. After popping in to the Customs House in South Shields only to be met with terrible service and promptly leaving we looked for another Cafe and ended up here. It is a no frills 'old school' cafe but clean, welcoming, great food at excellent prices. Forget your chain coffee shops and so called bistros selling cheap frozen fodder at inflated prices. Absolutely loved my dinner! Everything is home made. You get good amount of portion sizes. I highly recommend this place if you have baby's or toddlers and need to feed them aswell. Easy access to go to. Very spacious for your prams to go to . You can also eat outside. Food arrives fast and it's so hot. And it's very cheap.
