I booked the chennai lounge for a nice birthday present for my fiance and when we arrived it wasn't anything like I expected, i think it was more modern fusion, and we just wanted a classic curry experience. Before we ordered anything, we left. I wanted to tell the staff that we decided to go somewhere else, but they were in the kitchen, so we kind of just snook out 😂 We googled another indian and Everest came up, and we decided to give it a go. When we arrived at the building, our confidence lowered as the building from outside looked a bit run down, and walking in the very well used front doors, there was a tall staircase, so we had to climb quite a lot of stairs to get to the restaurant, but the main hall was all beautifully decorated and tables all covered in white, it looked like they were prepped and ready to cater to a wedding. Anyway, we were greeted right away by a super friendly man and possibly his wife?! We were seated in the side room, at a nice table all white and quite romantic, we were asked what drinks we would like straight away and they arrived quickly, with a side of poppadoms and dips, the mango chutney was delicious. They gave us enough time to discuss what we fancied, and after only 25 to 30 minutes the lovely friendly lady brought all our food out on a trolley, we ordered so much it barely fit on our table and it looked wonderful, the currys were cooked to perfection, not too oily and tons of flavour, the other bits were perfect too. I convinced my fiance to try the bombay potatoes (she is scared of anything spicy and new) She was gobsmacked! She said she could easily eat a plateful of them, and I 100% agree! They were delicious. We tried our best but couldn't manage everything we ordered. The table was cleared diligently as soon as we were finished and the offered deserts. There was no chance of anything else 😂 We then got up and went to pay, expecting the bill to be around 90 pounds, but I The total came to 50, and we were so surprised. We left a nice large tip. I couldn't recommend this place enough. Please keep this place...
Read moreThe night I dined here with a friend, we had the place all to ourselves! So to describe it as a quiet, out-of-the-way place does seem to state the obvious in this case, as does the promptness of the service!
The restaurant is situated on the upper floor of a building down the bottom end of town which is quite non-descript from the outside. There are signs outside, but nothing large that would invite you in if you were going past.
There is a short flight of stairs from the external entrance (lobby?) to the restaurant itself. I did not see any elevators, so disabled access to this place may be in question.
We were greeted in a friendly manner by the waiter and were quickly served with menus. Drinks and starters quickly followed and the waiter was wonderfully polite and chatty, even humouring our inane banter with him.
Our food for main course was very well presented and cooked with exceedingly good quality. Mine was a chicken tikka dish, the name of which I sadly forget, but I can truly say that a week later, my mouth is still watering at the memory as I write this review.
I have never tasted rice so perfectly cooked. The precise level of moisture made it extremely succulent. The curry itself was just as beautiful.. perfect blend of spiciness and exquisite flavour and I did not want my meal to end.
Price: around £45 - two people dining. This included 1 Cobra drink each, naan bread, starters and poppadoms.
So, price each for a nice evening out with a meal, about £20 per head.
Other high street restaurants may charge slightly less, but these days, not a lot less!
The quality of food and the friendly professional service made this restaurant for us, absolute top value for money.
Highly recommend!
(4 out of 5 stars only because of the issue with disabled access. If I am incorrect, let me know and I will try to amend...
Read moreWow! 3 words I can use to describe the service here: exploitative, racially driven and infantile. Oooh and with a side of misogyny too!
My friend booked the hall here for a wedding in 2020, and, to the disbelief of everybody, the manager decided to cast himself in the role of Bridezilla. Micromanaging the entire event and bursting into the hall of Muslim women, despite being aware of their women only request- he barked commands on the music being played, whether they could dance and how the events of the night were ordered. At one point, he even pulled the plug (literally!) in the midst of the celebrations declaring the night was over.
We thought we’d had the worst of it but our jaws truly dropped when the groom and his friends came to take pictures with the bride- and he demanded to SEARCH them. No bonus points for guessing which racial group they identified with in the census! Being a groom excited to start life with his new bride, he complied without any objections. My writing is limited so I’ve kept it to the highlights- but I would not recommend any interaction with this establishment.
In all fairness, this was a great learning experience of what to avoid in...
