The Hobbit has always been welcoming & are very supportive of their disabled customers.

Having suffered 2 serious injuries following RTIs which had affected me physically the staff are always mindful if theres someone with difficulties they will go out the way to help you- even so much as making sure someone can go down the stairs safely by ensuring its clear

Now to look after their customers to that degree is down to their attitude of inclusivity includes everyone!

Moreover the atmosphere with other customers is fantastic due to this, I lost count of the amount of times other customers went out of their way to help me get up & down steps, open doors for me & pick my crutches if they fell over.

I feel the hobbit is the safest pub in Southampton- their Door staff have Zero tolerance of any discrimination & take their duty of care responsibilities extremely professionally & diligently.

The drink prices in my opinion are reasonable & they will even tweak the cocktails for you if requested which is fantastic if you have allergies!

If you are a wheelchair user unfortunately the Hobbit is not wheelchair as it is a listed building ( I asked ) friendly as there are currently no ramps nor disabled toilets BUT fear not because just down the road is the Shooting Star who do have confirmed wheelchair friendly entry/ exits & disabled toilets ( I have tried & tested that as I use a wheelchair due to a broken foot at this time! )

Overall in my honest opinion the Hobbit Pub is run by caring enthusiastic staff who make it the best pub in Southampton

Dont take my word try it...

Rude, unnecessarily defensive staff, who don't do much to encourage a good atmosphere.

We paid £10 on the door at entry. We went in for the cocktail t-shirt challenge, after being told if you get 9 stamps you get a t-shirt.

I asked a bartender if he would stamp my drinks card after he'd finished making my drink. He told me he didn't have four hands.

I asked another bartender if there were any drinks she could recommend. She told me she didn't have time, advised me to look at the menu and pick one and in the meantime, she'd go do something else.

The cocktails weren't very nice. All have flat lemonade or cola in them. Our table was cleared by another gentleman, we said thank you, he ignored us apart from one silent, hateful gaze.

Our custom was an inconvenience for them, so we won't trouble them with it again.

Additionally, upon completting the challenge, we were told we had to pay for the t-shirt. We were also later told we could have paid for the t-shirt anyway.

When we visited 12 years ago, this was a lovely pub, with a piano and a love for lord of the rings. Now, it's lost all its charm and no longer associated with Lord of the Rings.

One bartender working in the garden was lovely. She was a gem in the rough. Otherwise, a very rude team of staff in dire need of customer...

I visited this pub last night and I honestly cannot reccomend it enough.

Not only do they serve delicious and well thought out cocktails, but they provided an incredibly safe environment for people like myself to enjoy a drink, whilst helping the economy.

Since the outbreak of Covid-19 it did worry me venturing out to a pub surrounded by others. However, the whole experience was well thought out and I felt SO SAFE.

I thought the traffic light system was brilliant and loved that we could order from the app! Which was incredibly slick and the staff did an amazing job to create and serve the drinks super fast!

All the staff that we met were very friendly, helpful and well trained. Having worked in the hospitality industry previously I can only imagine the stress they are going through in this current climate and I just want to say you are all AMAZING and you should be SO proud of yourselves!

If you want to enjoy a drink and feel safe... Visit...

Just an all round excellent pub, full of character history and themed like the Hobbit. What's not to like? Regular live music downstairs with some of the friendliest promoters you could hope to work with. There's an insane outside space which also occasionally has live music, but also all sorts of other events. Drinks are reasonably priced and there's an insane range of pint sized cocktails. You can order food and the staff are all super friendly. The only thing that lets this place down is a lack of parking, it's straight off the corner of the main road and if you are a band it can be difficult to load in and out. That's what you get with a city pub though. Also not sure what access arrangements are like? Steep narrow set of stairs down to the garden music area. Very well may be better access if you are disabled, but it wasn't obvious. Highly recommended venue and pub, particularly if you are a student and you like live music.

Came down from London to visit this pub. Seems more like a meeting place for students rather than an actual nightlife venue. Cliquey atmosphere, whole place lacking in energy, frankly quite dry and a little dull overall. No music playing except for a student garage band in a small gig room. Disappointing lack of Tolkien decor (or any kind of fantasy fiction decor at all whatsoever) inside. The cocktails, which I had particularly been looking forward to, were very sugary and lacking any sort of bite - you would likely get diabetes from all the sugar before getting a buzz on the cocktails. I went with a friend who is a local and they told me the establishment has changed a lot over the years, they even felt it necessary to apologise to me afterwards. Luckily we found another excellent venue nearby so the night was not a complete disaster. Would not recommend overall sadly.
