Went for afternoon tea, no tiered plates to start off with. Sandwiches were inedible. Cheese sandwich was filled with mature grated cheddar, only options were cheese, tuna, ham and egg. The sandwiches came with 2 leaves of lettuce, one quarter of a cherry tomato and the end bit of a dried cucumber. Truly unappealing. For a cafe in St Albans, so close to the cathedral it was disappointing. Served was friendly, and efficient. However she told us she only had one slice of sponge cake (but I clearly saw two slices when she grabbed our cakes…? Why the need to lie I have no clue!) remaining meaning the other three had to have the only other choice of cake which was coffee and walnut. The server also just grabbed the cakes with her bare hands. Not sure if she washed her hands but I doubt it. Scones were the only redeeming quality of the meal. Orange juice was clearly out a carton and just of bad quality. We were sat inside out of choice, and had to endure loud sounds of cutlery and plates being set down on top of each other. Which was honestly deafening! For the price we paid it was truly disappointing. I don’t think I have ever been not excited to eat what was put in front of me in a cafe. Honestly wish we had abandoned and gone elsewhere the moment we saw the sandwiches and no tiered platter for afternoon tea! Don’t waste your money here!
Oh yeah and also no alternative milks provided!? I have just read previous reviews and people had said the same thing. Truly wish I had read the reviews...
Read moreIt was my first time visiting St Albans, and this coffee shop seemed to be situated in a lovely area of the town..however that's all the positive facts I have to say about this place as a member of staff tried to force us to get our things and leave the premesis as there seemed to another old couple waiting for a table... all the seats were taken and many customers had ordered and finished there refreshments, and were simply just sitting and enjoying the weather, people and views...at not one single point in time did any member of staff ask the 'white people' to move. It was our table, Yes, I'm Indian, with a thick beard, with tanned skin, that was asked to leave. We simply stood out ground and said, 'we refuse to go anywhere. We have ordered and may order again, but don't force us out. We will stay here for as long as we want'..the waitress soon learned she was out of line, and backed down and turned around. That is terrible business practice. Needless to say, it was awkward, and I felt a sense of discrimination in the air... I'll will never return back.
Thank you for the...

If you're going to go have a cream tea or something it's alright, but give the afternoon tea a miss. But honestly there are probably nicer places to go, the staff like I said aren't unfriendly, but you also don't exactly...
