£5.40 for a pint of Peroni. Friendly and smart, belying its funny spot on the high street. It was a good place to pop into for an hour to do a bit of work (my usual use of it) as it has the best free wi-fi I have found anywhere in St Albans. See update below for why it is now not so good. For some reason it attracts lots of mums and dads with tiny children in the afternoon, which is fine, as they tend to be NICE, well behaved children, not the horrid ones that run about screaming while mum & dad get progressively more hammered (there's a nearby Wetherspoons for that). Update: the tiny children appear to be taking over. I was there with some colleagues at 1630 on Friday and it was unpleasantly like being in someone's front room in the midst of a creche for three year olds. The mums seem happy to let their offspring wander round the entire bar unsupervised, in a 'nanny's day off' kind of way, even coming way too close to sit and stare at us. Consequently it is off our potential meeting place list and a star removed until it loses its creche status. At least until the mums work out that Beech House is not an extension of their front room, so three horrid-looking blokes who are obviously busy, will not want to interact with any children at all. Especially ones that are not even their own. A grand comment back from Beech House, but I popped in again today and I might as well have been in some sort of pre-school club. Regardless of that Beech House is far better than several other nearby alternatives.

Went in for dinner on a hot Saturday. The ambience is great. The decor is more like a bar one would find in Texas or so. The place is spacious with quite a few tables. The service was prompt and good. The waiter gave us time to go through the menu and did not rush us for an order. The cocktail was usual, nothing extraordinary. They have a good mix of cocktails, beers and wine. The food menu is predominantly Italian with a mix western comfort food. The pizzas were well made and good portions. They could have been a tad bit better on the flavour. They have bottomless pizza for the more adventurous ones. The service was prompt and we were told in advance that the pizza would be delayed as there was a big bottomless pizza order. Overall a good place to visit with the family.

Absolutely LOVE the Beech House! We've been using their venue for St Albans Buzz Networking, monthly event, for over 10 years now! I've been involved for the last 5, and it makes such a difference to have a responsive venue and staff that care. The team are always helpful and take a genuine interest in you. Well, they have with me! I'm there at least once a week–outside my monthly networking event, so have had most things on the menu. Particular favourites are the delicious Pollo Diavola pizza, and the Buttermilk pancakes with bacon. Mmmm... We have our Christmas Meal there soon. Can't wait! If you need a venue to grab a quick coffee, for a meal or larger event, I highly recommend you get in touch with the Beech House, St Albans.

This review is about their breakfast/brunch. The Beech House is at a convenient location on St Peter's Street with many parking opportunities very close by. It's a large venue in dark but pleasing decor. There are many large or small tables that cater to any size of group. I'd recommend booking a table as it's quite a popular choice with the locals. But while there's enough space and you won't be rubbing elbows with your neighbours, they could have done a better job at being more inviting. The background music is quite loud and the setting, while nice enough to look at, is little less than practical. There was no money nor effort spent on making the venue something to write home about and you'll not find somebody raving about the interiors. Having said all that, when it comes to the actual food, the presentation on the plate is mouth-watering, it's tasty and there is a decent amount of options to choose from. However, you should like eggs. If you don't, this isn't the breakfast place for you. But if you do, you won't leave hungry. Prices are just on the end of acceptable. A Full English and a cup of coffee will set you back about £14, which you can get cheaper and (arguably) still better down the road at the pub. With a full staff of waiters, service could also be a bit quicker. We were in the unlucky situation that out of seven orders only two got everything right and when we mentioned that the eggs or toasts aren't what we ordered, the poor waiter got a bit defensive. We felt bad about it but also felt he could have handled the situation somewhat better. My group has often been to the Beech House and there's no doubt in my mind we'll be back. The food is good and there's enough space for a larger group, so despite a few negligible shortcomings, I can still...

We went to The Beech house for NYE- overall service okay- however the bills kept on having 1 to many drinks on them- We had dinner - settled bill - had to go back due to one to many drinks on the bill. then started another tab- of which we where asked to settle due to restaurant side closing- had to return the bill- had one to many drinks on it to later asking for a Hennessy gin - was served another gin- bar tender rudely tasted he Gin to tell me it was Hennessy- my reply was that I had been drinking it the whole evening and I know what it tastes like- walked back to the table- told my sister not to drink it- bar tender came back to say that they had run out of - so I said you blatantly lied to my face and made out as if I was lying about the gin- served us another Gin to replace what ever it was they had served- to then have the audacity to tell me it was more expensive but she will keep it as is- to my surprise when looking at the menu they where the same price! Considering we had spent a nice amount eating dinner for 5 and wine + drinks starter, desert and mains, to continue to have tabs overall spend a good couple of 100 I feel the service to the restaurant area and the attention to detail on bill could be better, also no need to be rude to someone about a drink and not apologise for your mistake and make out as if you doing me a huge favour. To top the evening off as we where leaving at around 1pm a fight broke out between a bouncer and another male- the bouncer absolutely nailed into the man- bloody nose and girlfriend involved too. I would have thought that bouncers are there to defuse and move someone away not pin to the ground and punch until bloody. This should have been...

I am absolutely shocked with The Beech House today. We went for english breakfast (it was a special weekend for me and ny partner) and I ordered food at 11.14am. I waited 40 mins and then went back inside to ask where food was. Not once during this time were we informed on how long the food would take. When I spoke to the waitress behind the bar I was advised that it was on its way. The waitresses then came upto our table to apologies and advised it would be 5 mins. We were offered a free coffee but we had already drunk our coffee and didnt want anymore. 15 mins later (so its now gone past 12.15) the food arrived however the food (beans, bacon, bread, sausage, hash brown, mushrooms, tomatoe) happened to be stone cold. The toast wasnt warm it was hard i had to use a knife to cut it! I mean it must have been sat out for 15 mins or it was scraps left as the breakfast menu had finished 15 mins prior to food coming out. I could put my finger inside the beans and it was cold like it was left out. The cuttlery was filthy. I complained of which they stated they could plate up again of which I refused. I got asked for a refund of which the waitress agreed. Its at this point she apologised. Not once did the manager come out and apologies. It wasnt a busy morning (i counted 3 tables of food only). There was plenty of staff given how quiet it was. I am convinced they forgot our food and then gave us the food / scraps at the end of breakfast seating. I was absolutely appauled and disgusted. If i could give this place 0 star I would... at least I got...
