We recently visited this pub, and while the atmosphere was lively and inviting, and the staff were incredibly friendly, our experience was let down by the slow service from the kitchen. We ordered chicken strips and fries, expecting a quick bite, but ended up waiting 36 minutes—all because they were prioritising delivery orders. It was quite disappointing to hear that explanation, especially as we had initially considered ramen but chose chicken strips and fries for their shorter preparation time. In the end, it is just 3 pieces of chicken! I was tempted to rate the pub 2 stars, but thanks to the lovely staff and enjoyable atmosphere, I’m giving 3 stars overall. We’ll consider giving it another try in the future, hoping for better service from the kitchen.

Tucked away on a cosy side street in the heart of St Albans, The Beehive is a hidden gem serving up soul-warming ramen and a tempting selection of starters. The pork tonkotsu with spicy broth was delicious riich, velvety, and so unbelievably moreish that I could have happily bathed in it. Every spoonful was pure comfort. The ramen Scotch egg was an unexpected delight, with its crisp exterior giving way to a perfectly runny yolk. The cauliflower wings, while bursting with bold flavours, didn’t quite hit the spot for me, as I was craving something crispier and more indulgent. But that’s more about my expectations than the dish itself. Overall, the food was fantastic, and I’ll be back in a heartbeat when the next ramen craving hits!

The staff were lovely but the burgers took an hour when they said 30 mins (apparently a policy to make the food ordered by people who had booked a table before those who had not despite the order in which you place your order - a new one for me!) and we all agreed the worse burgers we’ve had in our life. Good for drinks but literally the worse for food hence the reluctant one star. We did say this to the waitress but nothing happened. I guess business is booming and they don’t need return customers or a continuing good reputation

The beer garden is nice, some of the tables even have heating, the staff is very friendly and accommodating. Unfortunately, that is about it for the positives. The beer selection is not bad, but doesn't really have anything that would satisfy me personally. The app is horrendous, I would not be surprised to see this revolting example of software gore in a torture museum. You need to create an account to add a payment method and the UI is extremely clunky, you're lucky if you manage to order in less than 20 minutes. I realize this is because of the government restrictions, but there are ways to make ordering with your phone smooth, even convenient. As for the food, the burger I got I would equate to a slightly fancier McDonald's cheeseburger with an overdone patty and overall the size of the portions leave a lot to be desired. All in all, it's better than getting punched in the face, but I would rather (and next time I will)...

Glitchy and poorly designed app to sit outside. We ended up having to get table service after several trips to the bar to talk to staff. Waste of time. Then waited more then half an hour for our drinks while other tables where getting drinks and food... The pub was as 30% capacity at most and they still couldn't cope. After 45' and after complaining we got our food - which was good. We wanted a second round but the kitchen closes at 9pm although that isn't stated anywhere and they don't let people know in advance. We complained of all the time wasted and got some "complementary" nachos which was nice... Only issue is that later at home we realized they overcharged us £10 on the 1st drink round. Also, we were all asked to go inside at 10pm even though gov released the curfew on beer gardens... Will never go here...

2 years ago I came here and recieved horrible service and wrote a 1 star review, Saturday I went back and then took down my review because the beehive has gone through a seismic shift. I was absolutely thrilled with the food service and generally everything. Although we were in on a busy day and they said the food would be 45 minutes the atmosphere and drinks made that go by in a breeze and it was absolutely delicious the change to the more Asian style food is a stroke of genius considering the area is flooded with pubs with standard pub food and the beehive stands as a gem in the rough with a good selection of draught drinks and food. I would say that after my experience 2 years ago they definitely deserve all positive reviews and everything coming thier way. Very impressed and will...
