Gerard Arms — Restaurant in St Helens

We visited the pub today for some food and drinks as the weather was absolutely glorious and the pub is renowned for its spacious beer garden. The garden was full and everyone was enjoying themselves. After a while in the beer garden we moved inside to take a break from the heat as we wanted to eat our meals indoors to avoid harassment by flies which is completely normal! However, what was not normal was the atrocious attitude of the small in height, blonde barmaid who was serving customers. Absolutely no manners from her to customers and the way she treated her colleagues in front of others was appalling. I witnessed her on numerous occasions talk down to a young boy as though he was a toddler. She was rude and disrespectful and the poor lad was clearly exhausted from running around the pub catering to people like us who were enjoying a day out. Once I had seen her do it once, I could not take my eyes away and was continuously watching her treat people disgracefully. I think she could do with some up to date training on how to treat others as this unfortunately is the industry she is choosing to work in. Aside from this low point, the food and time management was bob on, we hardly waited any time at all for our drinks and the food was delicious. Visited last week and ordered food and drink waited nearly 15 minutes for my drinks despite being told to “wait there whilst he got them” as he proceeded to serve another 5-6 people when I asked if there was any update on my drinks (1 being a soft drink) he turned round saying that he didn’t think I’d ordered anything so tried to charge me again? Thankfully it was rectified but after nearly 15 minutes it was a poor service thankfully the food and beer garden was good so can’t fault it there maybe just prioritising the person you’re servicing before serving others.

Update: Been again recently with some friends and service was slow again and waited for a drink for nearly 25 minutes only to be told when I went the bar they “didn’t know what drink I had ordered” as it was done via the app? But on the same order all my friend’s drinks happened to go through and be delivered...

came for food as online says kitchen closes at 9pm, to be told kitchen is closed at 8pm spent about £20 on taxis to get to this place for not to be able to get what we came for. spent a lot of money in here in the past, very upset and will not be coming again. if it closes at 8pm update online the times you are open til. EDIT the manager got in touch with us and offered us to come back and treated us to 2 sunday roasts and a round of drinks. He got in touch with us straight away and is resolving the problem, the customer service here is a 5 star as we had a problem and they have resolved it and to also offer us a free date night on top is amazing. we will definitely be eating here a lot more than we usually do from now on thankyou very much to lee and all the team for sorting...
