Schooners Bar - Where Pizzas Are Holy, Brownies Are Dangerous, and Even the Dogs Leave Happy
Right, so let me just say it straight: if you walk past Schooners Bar and don’t go in, you’re making a grave mistake. Like, “forgetting your dog at the beach” level of mistake. This place is an absolute treat from start to finish.
First up, the pizzas. Oh lord. Divine. We’re talking crispy, chewy, perfectly-topped masterpieces that make you question whether you’ve ever really “had” pizza before. Then you throw in the garlic bread, which was so good I briefly considered proposing to it.
The real ales? Spot on. Whoever’s looking after the beer here deserves a medal. Perfectly poured, properly kept, and just the thing to wash down your weight in carbs and cheese.
And then… the desserts. The biscoff brownies. Honestly, these things should come with a support group. Next-level gooey, rich, and indecently delicious. I nearly ordered a second but decided to leave some dignity on the table.
The vibe is brilliant, relaxed, welcoming, with that “we actually care if you’re having good food and a good time” energy that you don’t find everywhere.
Oh and the dogs? Thrilled. They got fuss, space to chill, and I’m fairly sure mine is now writing a Google review of her own.
So yeah, if you want divine pizzas, real ale done right, and brownies that might ruin you for all other desserts, Schooners Bar is the place. Just don’t wear...

It was opening night for the season and everything went so well that you would think they hadn't shut over the winter. Friendly staff at the bar took us up to our table which had a fantastic view over the cove. Took a drinks order whilst we mulled over the menu. We decided to go for the tapas option so chose 5 different between us - fried aubergine with feta, scallops, burnt cauliflower, crispy belly pork and king prawns. All arrived together and were well presented and hot. Also had a very reasonably priced bottle of Pinot Grigio. Thought we had to try the dessert so we had the ice cream, and Creme Brulee, both of which were excellent. Couldn't fault the place or the food - excellent service also. Only downside would be it's size - we only counted 30 covers which were booked twice over the evening (we were there at 6, and the table was booked again for 8) so you really do need to book, but it's...
Read moreWe were highly recommended this place to dine at. We didn’t get off to a great start when we arrived ahead of our booking time and we were forgotten about, despite being told “we will let you know when your table is ready” when we bought drinks beforehand. We had to ask if our table was ready 20 minutes after our booking time and when we did, the response was “oh I don’t know anything about your booking, I’ll find out”. We were then told “Your table is ready when you are” which was a bit of insult considering we had been left waiting for 35 minutes and told to wait outside on the veranda which was getting chilly by then for an 8.15pm booking. The service was okay but we had to wait quite a while for three tapas dishes. Overall, not the best experience. However the view was lovely. One point we’d like to make to you Schooners, if you book a window table with a sea view, shouldn’t both people be able to see the view? Turn your seating around so both people get a view!...
