I have been a regular patron of this Indian restaurant (Crown of India, Stone) for quite some time, often bringing large groups with me and also ordering takeout frequently. The service has always been great and they are very hospitable and attentive. In the past, the food quality has always been exceptional, which is why I was surprised by my recent experiences.
A few weeks ago, I ate in the restaurant and noticed a significant decline in food quality. The dishes I usually enjoy lacked flavour and this was consistent across the starters and other dishes ordered by my friends. I considered this to be a one-time occurrence, assuming perhaps the chef was having an off day - it can happen to the best of places.
However, my disappointment continued when I ordered takeout recently. The food was subpar in every aspect. The dishes seemed to be filled with excessive onions and tomatoes to compensate for the lack of meat, and the naan breads were burnt on the outside and undercooked inside. Additionally, the flavours were either bland or overwhelmingly spicy.
Considering my previous positive experiences, I hope this decline is temporary. I plan to give the restaurant some time before returning, with the hope that they address these quality issues. It's disappointing to see such a drop in standards, especially since this place used to serve consistently delicious and high-quality food. Here's hoping for a positive change upon my return and if the food does become as good as it was once before, I will update...
Read moreThat review before who ever saw it was an old review from a few years ago. Unfortunately the place has now really gone down hill from a main meals point of view. We went again did five of us for my birthday night early July (2021) and how so disappointed were all five of us with our mains. From what we were served two years ago to then is well...words can't explain. The quality was so poor the none of us could anywhere near finish our meals. We all had chicken, well if you could call it chicken. It resembled the rubbery frozen chicken from bags you would only ever buy and eat at home if nothing else was available. Personally i would never buy it at any cost. There was just nothing there at all from the authenticity of a curry and three of the meals main taste resembled a Chinese sweet and sour taste and certainly not the Indian meal that was ordered. I was embarrassed with the meals after taking my friends there for what should of been a good night. Ps- the one star is for the starters which weren't bad. But mains a...
Read moreI have eaten in this restaurant a few times and have the experience to make comparisons. This is a long dark restaurant and is cramped in places. The staff are quite friendly but they don't really engage. I guess it's because they are so busy and often seen running around.
To the food . I have tried 3 different main dishes and all were red . None of them were a masslla dish. Looking around, just about every dish was red and this is unusual. Food temperature was not great , sauce or gravy was quite hot but the meat was only warm. Portion size was good , but there are no plates , you eat off the plate that the main dish comes in . Also there are no hot plates which are sadly missed. Food flavour seems to err towards mild even when asked for a hotter version. Prices are average and the food quality is ok , even if the tastes are conservative. This maybe the style here but I have eaten tastier food. For the unassuming palate , then this...
