I was looking for a pub lunch out for myself, my husband and my sister in law, did a google search and came across The Duke Of York. I chose it because the previous reviews were very good so I booked a table. They certainly lived up to those reviews. The hosts were very welcoming and on entering the one way system the first thing we had to do was sanitise our hands, we checked in and I completed a track and trace slip. We were then showed to our socially distanced table and given a menu and shown the specials board. All I can say is the food was delicious and plentiful and we didnt have room for the traditional puddings much as we"d like to try them. My husband had creamy garlic mushrooms on ciabatta starter with a chilli beef and rice main in a giant tortilla shell, my sister in law had chicken, black pudding and chicken starter and lasagne and chunky chips main and I had delicious broccoli and stilton soup with hot ciabatta and butter and cheese and onion pie, chunky chips and beans for main, all washed down with beer and gin and tonic. They were huge portions and we were still so full hours later that we didnt need any dinner! I would highly recommend the Duke of York. The olde world charm and traditional interior with pictures on the wall showing Stockport in the 1800s and early 1900s was very interesting. We will...
Read moreI've Always found the Duke to be a nice pub and decided to eat here last night as we are visiting as many pubs and restaurants as we can during the eat out campaign. All of us where working next day and Driving so it was soft drinks all round which where brought over swiftly and our food order was taken. Starters arrived and where OK but not warm enough and towards the end my mushroom starter was stone cold, the others said the same Appart from the soup which was steaming hot. Unfortunately this is where it went rapidly downhill, we waited 25 minutes between our starter and our main meal arriving which is far too long. I had the fish and chips with mushy peas, the peas where stone cold and completely tasteless the chips where ok but the fish was undercooked and very sloppy, it looked OK on the outside but was actually awful. My wife and Daughter in law had the Cheese and onion pie and Both commented that it was basically an onion pie and neither could taste any cheese at all, both where very disappointed as we had been told this was the Dukes best dish. My son had the chicken and said it was OK but again it was not warm enough and was stone cold towards the end. Overall the experience was disappointing for such a well renowned pub...
Read moreStopped for a drink as it was a sunny day and wanted something to bite. 1st beers were warm, the first one and second which I didn’t finish, I told the waitress about it but she seems they were busy with other staff to think about it. 2nd grabbed a garlic bread which was ok, nothing special and mussels. Well on the menu says buttery mussels instead I received creamy one. They weren’t bad but couldn’t taste the mussels as the cream was overtaking the flavour. Portion is like tapas, small. On social media/ outside board they have an offer of 3 tapas for 16 but they said they got new management so no more...
