The Stockdove Pub is at the top of my road,I have always gone in for a drink ,over the last five years of living just over the road but not really all that much as I didnt think that it was that great ,but its recently been taken over by a couple of really lovely woman and they have really turned the place around.There is now quite a bit of entertainment that is layed including really good bands that play every Friday night. Lastly not forgetting too mention the food that considering is pub grub,is surprisingly very nice indeed..I now go in much much more and feel very lucky too have such a nice pub that is practically on my door step! Then as we walked in the whole place fell silent and everyone literally turned and stared at us. We had gone there as it had advertised it was selling food, once we found the person serving and asked if they were serving they just said "no" and nothing else. We felt like we were intruding and not welcome so we left and went to the Duke of York who were the total opposite, friendly as we entered and chatted to us and the food was fab. Seems it's only a menu special now so settled for Ham, egg n chips. (Ā£7-odd and just one egg) Thought the chips might be be home made but, despite the server's insistence that they were, they absolutely weren't...Oven chips are oven chips fer God's sake. The ham was delicious and was quickly followed by the chef who explained that the review that I'd read was from before the place changed hands. She apologised profusely and said she'd tell the new owners. 6/10 just for the friendly atmosphere...
