There were 5 of us (and a dog) who visited on Saturday 5th July sometime around 8PM. We walked around the premises to the rear and found a bench in the beer garden (after scanning in and complying with covid-19 restrictions). After we sat, one of the staff came over to take our order. All seemed well and the young lady who initially took our drinks order was very pleasant. A second member of staff brought our drinks out to us and proceeded to mention payment. And just after, the young lady who took our order arrived with the bill. She asked if we wanted to pay in full or to split the bill. We asked if we could split the bill based on what we had ordered. The bill was to be split into three. This didnât appear to be a problem and the waitress was happy to oblige. She was trying to work out the splits and a member of our party offered to help and proceeded to calculate the splits accordingly using a calculator on her phone. Meanwhile, one member of our group paid for his drink while the rest was being worked out. During this time, a female member of staff came over to the table and was pleasant at first and shared a joke. She identified herself as the owner and then changed her tone for an unknown reason. She became angry and unpleasant because we were splitting the bill. Her reasoning was that staffing levels were short and we were taking up their time when they needed to be serving other patrons. Which is a fair enough reason for concern as there were other customers - although not so many that they were rushed off their feet. We apologised and expressed that we had not realised this was an issue. We said how much we needed to pay, but the owner took the receipt and screwed it up. She said she would provide new bills according to our relevant itemised bills and left to produce new bills. We appreciated that she was probably under a lot of stress although we didnât deem it appropriate to be spoken to the way we had been. Still, we were happy to remain and enjoy our drinks and pay. The owner returned asking what drinks we had ordered and how we would like to split them, and proceeded to accuse of us of trying to be awkward on purpose. This simply wasnât the case and a female member of our group said that she felt like the whole situation had been made awkward and convoluted by the owners intervention. The owner then became more angry and started to swear at and tell my friend to âshut the f**k upâ. Not being happy with the rudeness, my friend declined to stop talking before asking what the issue was. The owner then turned to myself and the male members of the group and began to make sexist remarks and questioned why a female was speaking for us, told us to âgrow a pairâ before turning her attention back to my friend. They paid for their drinks, before the owner said that my friend âcouldnât laugh properlyâ and said that âthe dog was better lookingâ than my friend. After a further exchange, the owner took the drinks and asked us to leave before attempting to physically threaten my friend. We left without argument, and as we left the premises, the owner came back outside to continue to verbally abuse us and shout insults. I would also like to just mention that the owner did all this without adhering to covid-19 guidlines (she did not wear a face covering and continually broke social distancing while shouting at us). Had we known it would have been such a trivial issue, we would have paid in full and settled amongst ourselves. You would have thought that after the difficult year institutions such as pubs have had due to the pandemic, that there would be more kindness and understanding, but this simply wasnât the case. It was appalling behaviour and completely...
Read moreDonât bother going if you have a baby. Decided to go on our first proper outing with our 4 month old baby for my husbands football teams presentation evening. It was 30 degrees so not the best idea to go out to sit in a function room and of course my baby was not best pleased with the heat / noise. I took her into the hallway upstairs to try and find somewhere quiet to calm her down and there was a landing ( technically through a door that said private) but due to my baby screaming I did what any mother would do and walked through to try calm her down. I was then shouted at by some man telling me to get out to which I then said look I am trying to calm my baby down a minute and he then told me to go do that in the disabled toilet and get out. Absolutely disgusting , and a real shame as this is our local pub but you think they would have some empathy to allow me to stand there for 5 minutes to get my baby to sleep but no....
Read moreThe pub was empty on Saturday night. Called in for quick soft drink on way home. Didn't notice any need to register car reg. I have received a £100 invoice (not a fine) for not entering my car reg, threatening letter from a private firm. The Crown works in conjunction with parking gangsters 'Smart' Parking Ltd to extort as much money out of visitors as possible. Have appealed as was there for just over 10 minutes as a client of the business (they all have 10 min grace period) and appeal rejected by this openly brazen gang of thieves. Never going there again as the invoice is far more than a check on car park abuse - it's a cynical and exorbitant mugging of the punters. If the pub treats its customers so badly it conspires in this , it doesn't deserve and doesn't look like...
