A Birthday Feast with a Side of Warm Fuzzies (and Peas) We celebrated a milestone birthday here, the big 50 and from the moment we walked in, the service had us feeling like VIPs, or at least Very Important Pie-eaters. I went straight in for the Three Cheese & Onion Pie: tarragon and garlic tucked in a golden shortcrust pastry, lounging in a cheese and chive sauce, and flanked by a honey-glazed bacon steak. The thick-cut chips were proper doorstops, and the mushy peas were so good I briefly considered proposing to them. My wife chose the turkey roast with pork and herb stuffing and a Yorkshire pudding so big it could double as a birdbath. The only quibble? The plate was a touch on the “pleasantly warm” side rather than piping hot. Dessert was skipped because the birthday boy had a cake ready to go. (In fairness, turning 50 is a good enough excuse to eat your bodyweight in frosting.) Would we come back? Absolutely. Next time, I’m saving room for pudding, and maybe asking for my plate to be just a shade hotter.

We (vegan) came with our grandparents (non-vegan) for Sunday dinner expecting the reliable pub curry we’ve had in the past, and left totally blown away by the carrot Wellington and biscoff cheesecake. We ate our way through London’s vegan scene in 2018 and this stands up there with any adaptation of British cuisine we tried. The star was obviously the Wellington, but the perfectly cooked veg and rich gravy took it to the next level. The cheesecake was impressively light yet rich and a wonderful use of an accidentally-vegan favorite. Been vegan for approaching a decade and this was a special meal we’ll remember for a long time, at a very reasonable price. Something for everyone in a warm, refined atmosphere. Our highest compliments to the chef, and heartfelt thanks for a vegan option that’s not just an afterthought. Hope people can try them every day and not just Sunday!

Never eaten here before.. Nice atmosphere on arrival and a good well spaced out pub. Opted for the 2 meat roast whilst my wife had the 12hr roast beef lunch. On appearance looked very appealing but unfortunately the roast beef which was my first taste was very chewy. So tried another piece from which again was very chewy. So tried the turkey which was OK but had a rather old taste to it.. the star of the show was the vegetables. The swede mash was nicely seasoned as well as the red cabbage. 2 half cut roast potatoes.. underseasoned and cold have at least had a couple more. The gravey again was lacked flavour but that is my personal taste. For the price it was OK in all but in all was disappointed in comparing with other pub roasts we have had. Nice atmosphere though and great for families.

Since they decided to delete my friend’s previous review i will write it again. DO NOT COME HERE. The service is terrible , the staff are extremely rude and will judge you based on what you look like. I came here with two of my friends and my friend obviously got a drink. It has been lovely weather so we decided to sit outside. As soon as we even stepped outside this very angry women shouts at us and rudely tells us we cant sit outside. I didn't say anything and just went inside as i presume thats just a rule. Then, 5 minutes later a group of women go outside with bottles of wine and start drinking. They were outside for ages, no one told them THEY couldn’t sit outside but we were told we couldn’t the minute we even lay a toe outside. I decided to have some of my friends drink as she offered me some and before i knew it the same women comes over and again shouts at us saying i cant drink my friends drink? When did this become a rule that you cant have some of your friends drink. We are all 19 and legally allowed to drink. I explained to her she can check my ID that’s completely fine but don't come over screaming at me like i’m worthless and i mean less then everyone else there. I also explained how it was unfair that everyone else was allowed to drink outside but we weren't. She them proceeds to shout telling me people are not allowed to drink outside after a certain time which is completely fine but don't speak to me like that and also its not one rule for us and one rule for them so i pointed out the groups of people sat outside drinking and she soon shut up. She goes outside and says very kindly to these grown women they aren’t allowed to have drinks outside and they ignore her as they had never been told this rule before and come here all the time. She runs off with my ID for 10 minutes praying it is a fake when it is not and we are all over 19. She comes back over doesn't even look at us and gives us our ID’s back and doesn't even apologise for the way she has spoken to us. The people were still outside drinking and continued to for a while and they were allowed just because they were older then us. she had to tell them again nicely because she speaks to older people with respect but if you look young you get spoken to like absolute dirt. It is so unfair that we have been treated this way. We don't cause trouble, we are polite and we paid to be in there. The fact she felt that because we were a-lot younger than her that she could speak to us so horribly is upsetting. We just wanted to enjoy the sun and have a nice night and people like her do really ruin it for others. Don't come here, don't give people like her the funding to even have a job. She shouldn’t work with the public and she should learn some basic manners. At 50 years old you would think she would have learnt this by now but...

We got invited out for a meal on Monday 23rd June, 6.30 pm for 7pm, so we didn't want to complain and upset the people who had invited us. We've in the past, had some really lovely meals at the John Millington. Disappointed 😞 on Monday though, yes the staff are friendly but when you're given the menu,so early in the evening and given a long list of things that weren't available,it's disappointing. I was looking forward to having some of those lovely thick cut chips, l'd had in the past with my steak but so Disappointed to get 'ordinary' ? chips.. Half were more like the small crispy bits that are left over. 3 other people had steak and chips as well and their chips were no better, the steak was edible but not what l'd call really lovely, as in the past. My wife had the steak and ale pie, something she'd had before and really enjoyed but not this time, she said the pastry was so hard in places, she couldn't get her knife through it. We've always been to the John Millington for a meal, at the weekend and never felt disappointed, it's ashame the same food quality and standards weren't on show...

This was our first visit to The John Millington. We booked ahead just in case but we didn't need to as it was very quiet. We were greeted by a very friendly member of staff who showed us to our table. We were told it was table service but if we needed more drinks to feel free to approach the bar. We ordered our food which seemed to take forever to arrive. I ordered the steak pie and my partner ordered the steak. When it finally arrived, on first impressions looked great. The pastry was lovely but sadly the steak filling was really tough. My partners steak was nicely cooked but the peppercorn sauce just tested of cream and had very little flavour. The mushroom and tomato lacked flavour and seemed greasy. We both wanted another drink so as nobody had approached our table to ask if we needed anything my partner went to the bar. The barman was very unfriendly and made him feel that he shouldn't be stood at the bar and it was an inconvenience to him. The waitresses were very friendly and I want to get that across. Its just a shame...
