A rainy Saturday evening, we arrived for an 8.00 booking for a family meal as our daughter had just returned from university. Upon arrival, if there were disabled parking spaces, they were not signposted. We then walked in the dark over a very uneven carpark strewn with puddles (2 of our party have walking aids and are registered disabled) Upon entering, we made our way down the stairs (no obvious or signposted disabled access), checked in, and were shown to our table, the Restaurant was busy as I didn't see many empty tables, which turned out to be a problem (more on that later). Having been seated, we waited about 15 minutes for a member of staff to approach to give us menus and ask if we would like anything to drink, we waited some more, and a drinks menu then arrived. We ordered 3 cocktails: a Bloody Mary; a Passion Fruit Martini, and a Mojito, some water and a bottle of Viognier, as well as mixed Olives and Foccacia and dipping oil, small portions but then again a small cost. We ordered a sharing baked Camembert and a wild Mushroom starters. The Camembert came with 3 bits of toast, so more was requested, and the sauce for the mushrooms had the texture of Custard, far too claggy and thick. My wife and my daughter ordered the fish pie, but unfortunately, it had sold out, so they ordered the linguine without the Chorizo, whilst I ordered the aged Pork chop, which was the highlight of the evening it was cooked to perfection, the fat rendered perfectly, and the chop moist and flavoursome and the little baked apple's were simply wonderfully, the remoulade and the fries were suitable accompaniments. The Linguine was equally enjoyed as well, although the staff should bring a spoon with which to eat it, without me having to get up from the table to ask! No check back was done, but then for a full Restaurant I only saw 3 staff trying their best (but failing) to cope with that evenings guests. Puddings were ordered: a Pannacotta: Sticky Toffee pud and a Bread and Butter pudding, the Pannacotta had just the right amount of wobble, however the B &B pudding had had too long in the microwave and the top was like chewy cardboard. Now, all the things that were not as they should have been, would have mentioned at the time, had anybody been bothered to check back on us. We decided to end the night with an Expresso Martini, a Chocolate and Orange Martini, and an expresso. After waiting over 20 minutes for the drinks to arrive and being the last customers in the Restaurant, I went to the bar to see where the drinks were, when I was told that the staff had not even started making them, I canceled the drinks and paid the bill (2 hours and 40 minutes I will never get back). I know that with Egypt Mill being part of a chain, you are not going to get a "fine dining" experience in regard to either the food nor the service, and on this occasion, unfortunately I was proved right. Had the service been more visible and attentive, then the shortcomings with the food could have been overlooked, and an enjoyable evening would of been had by all, allas we left very much wishing we had gone...

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Egypt Mill Hotel and Restaurant in Nailsworth, and I must say it was an unforgettable experience.
From the moment I stepped in, the atmosphere exuded warmth and charm. The cozy ambiance and rustic décor created a welcoming environment, perfect for a delightful meal. The restaurant's attention to detail in creating a great atmosphere truly enhanced the overall dining experience.
What truly stood out, however, was the impeccable service. The staff at Egypt Mill Hotel and Restaurant went above and beyond to make our evening memorable. Their attentiveness, friendliness, and knowledge about the menu were exceptional. Every request was met with a smile, and the staff's genuine enthusiasm added to the overall positive vibe of the restaurant.
And let's talk about the food! The menu featured a delectable selection of dishes, each prepared with fresh, high-quality ingredients. The presentation was as delightful as the taste, showcasing the chef's expertise and creativity. The flavors were exquisite, and it was evident that a lot of thought and passion went into each dish.
In addition to the incredible food and service, the restaurant's location in Nailsworth added to the overall charm. The picturesque surroundings provided a beautiful backdrop to our dining experience, making it a perfect destination for both locals and visitors alike.
All in all, my experience at Egypt Mill Hotel and Restaurant was nothing short of exceptional. Read moreWARNING £100 PARKING FINE issued after visiting with family for lunch that you CANNOT APPEAL and get zero help with from the Hotel/Restaurant. THIS WAS A FOOD VISIT ONLY - NOT A HOTEL STAY! Visited for lunch on December 29th... lovely building with good food and really good service. This should be a 5 star review on what was a lovely meal and overall experience. So much so we were all really looking forward to returning whenever we have family get-togethers nearby. As such it is a real shame to have to leave a 1 star review with the main purpose to WARN OTHERS of this and to see the 'owners take ownership' of this problem (there are loads of comments on-line saying the same thing about being hit with these £100 parking fines). There are no warning signs on the hotel/restaurant entry or exit and no interior signs/warnings from staff. As mentioned, countless others have been caught out by this... Until the hotel/restaurant takes ownership of this and puts up clear signage as you enter and leave the hotel/restaurant gate entry this great venue gets One Star. If there are parking restrictions this should be clearly written on the hotel/restaurant entry which ironically is described as FREE PARKING when you check them out on-line (perhaps this is just if you are a guest at the hotel which is fine - but again - where are the signs!?) I cannot stress enough, great restaurant and staff and enjoyed the visit - but we feel robbed of £100 - which leaves a bitter taste instead of a pleasant one and a bad review instead of what should have been a good one... What a Shame! Happy to remove this review if the Egypt Hotel...
