Albion at Ryhope Restaurant & Bar — Restaurant in Sunderland

We'd booked a table for Mothers day and were made to pre-order and pre pay a deposit. Upon arrival, we were greeted and a drinks order taken, we advised that 1 member of our party could no longer make it, which is when it became apparent our pre-order was not in the system. After fixing that mistake, another customers starters arrived at our table, which we then sent away. Our starters didn't arrive until around 12:30 with mains following at 13:20, the kids meals where not presented. The kids meals arrived about 10 minutes after the adults meals.

We ordered a cider and a Guinness but two ciders were given to the table, so one was sent back. After 10 minutes we had to chase the Guinness and only then did it arrive another 5 minutes later.

The portion size for the steak main was quite small but all other mains where huge in comparison. The food however was nice.

When it came to desserts, 1 cheesecake was missing and still hadn't arrived when everyone else had finished, so we requested this in a takeaway box.

Finally, the staff were very attentive but it appeared there was no system for who looked after what table. We'd be asked the same question about foods / drinks 2-3 times by different...

The Albion truly is a hidden treasure. Despite having passed it many times, I’d never stopped in… what a mistake! This will definitely be a regular spot from now on.

From the moment we arrived, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. The staff were genuinely lovely, and the overall vibe made it easy to relax. It’s clear this place is run with care and attention.

The beer garden out back was a highlight - cosy, homely, and the perfect spot for a sunny day. As we left, the front garden had great music playing and a really lively, friendly feel.

Drinks were well-priced with a solid selection, and the food was fresh and absolutely delicious. I’m already looking forward to coming back and trying more from the menu.

We've passed the Albion so many times and have always said 'we must pop in there one night'. Well we went in tonight to celebrate our 2nd wedding anniversary and were blown away by the service and food. Kostas, the owner, is a lovely host and made sure we were ok and topped up with drinks. The food was amazing and there was a really good choice and all at a good price. Cannot fault a single thing. We've actually booked the function room too for our daughter's 1st birthday/christening next year and we'll definitely be returning within the next few...
