Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Sunderland

I’ve had great experiences with different Costa. But today I had THE WORST experience at Costa in Galleries and will never go back to this Costa if it’s managing by the same manager! First of all, I understand the pandemic situations with social distances and limitations of the customers etc. There were four of us waiting at the queue and there were empty two tables available for 2 people in different areas. Which means the following 2 couples could have sat down, but they make them waiting behind us until we suggested. Also, there were 2 people were sitting at a 4 people seat for a very long time as their glasses were empty when we got to the front of the line and we were at the front of the queue for at least 25mins.

I understand the staff cannot ask customers to leave, but it’s not illegal to ask the customers if they would like to move to a two people table. So other customers can use the 4 seats table.

When I spoke to the manager that they’re obviously not from the same household, she stopped me straight the way and saying that there’s no clear guidelines for that. It’s black and white on the UK government website. At the end the manager made the young guy who’s working on floor to speak to the customers. I feel so sorry for the young guy as it should be the manager’s job and not standing and chatting about.

I'm a regular customer of Costa as they do do a real nice coffee. But lately I've found that my favourite brew has either been changes or the coffee beans have changed to weaker variatys. I would of given the shop 5 stars but the fact on my last visit I was disappointed at how weak and watery my coffee was I love strong coffee which costs normally do but on this occasion it was a big let down.please please Costa give me strong not weak coffee. On a positive note the staff are friendly and helpful but tend to get confused at times with some orders. All in all it is still a nice spot to relax with...
