Mogul — Restaurant in Surrey Heath

What a shame, the Mogul has truly gone down hill. Not only that the COVID measures were pretty poor. We booked for 19:00. After three requests for someone to take our order it was eventually taken at 19:40. Our food then didn’t come out until 21:00. When it did come out it was cold, or at best a couple of dishes were tepid. We ate some of the food, as by this point to be honest I’d eat almost anything. No one checked on us or was easy to make eye contact with or flag down. I literally had to yell excuse me and wave as they dashed by. I tried to complain, they took a singular curry and £4 off. It was clear not a only had they take a booking for every table at 19:00, they continued to accept and send take away orders throughout. I said we would much rather be told we can’t book at 19:00 the first availability was 20:00...he said but then people go else where. I advised that’s better than this service where we now won’t return. He said but there was lots of take away orders, I tried to explain again they should serve those they have already taken bookings and have traveled to them before accepting more and more take out. He didn’t get it, just explained sun-thurs there is 10% off take away if we want to try it 🤦🏼‍♀️ If you are trying to be good and not spread COVID this is also not the place for you. The entry and exit way was a nightmare with dozens of people crammed together. There was no hand sanitiser on arrival. There were screens between tables which at first gave a good impression. Between sittings the wooden bits of the chairs and the screens were not wiped down neither were the menus. The same filthy trolley was wheeled back and forth from the kitchen all night. One of the managers wore his mask round his chin the entire evening and a couple of the other staff members had their noses out. The chef had to leave the kitchen to bring food out multiple times, clearly as it was sat waiting and going cold. Tried this restaurant and the biryani was not authentic at all . Biryani which is cooked in layers after the meat is cooked . It’s a long process to cook authentic Biryani so these guys mixed lamb curry with colored rice and served it as Biryani . If you know your authentic Indian food you’ll be disappointed. Their chicken masala was tandoori chicken pieces put into a sauce and cooked . Again not authentic as this is supposed to be cooked with raw chicken in order to infuse the layers of spices. Mixed grill was okay . Karahi chicken was not cooked from scratch as this dish requires raw chicken to be cooked with minimal spices and tomatoes constantly stirred until the water from the chicken vanishes . We ended up with a semi dry curry nothing like a Karahi dish. Not many Bengali or Indians can cook the authentic Karahi dish. . It had no authentic Karahi chicken taste. Owner seems too busy bragging whilst customers wait without realizing that in our case we are excellent chefs in Indian cuisine ourselves and yes we can cook authentic dishes. It’s no good telling me what famous people have eaten at your place because it’s meaningless to me who has eaten there and it says nothing about the food . Owner did not realize that we were retired previous owners of a five star top class Indian restaurant and we know our authentic food . Table was booked for 6.30pm , shown to our table which might as well be in the kitchen! Promptly took our drinks order thou that itself took a while as waiter did not understand and that is the only positive part. What we witnessed was shocking! We were brought out poppadoms with the usual condiments and they tasted old and the condiments were watered down and the onion had cut up carrot rather than tomatoes and cucumber (interesting) we sat there for an hour and then had to ask them to take our food order and was told 5 mins, once order taken it was another hour and we asked when we would be getting our food and told 5mins. While waiting,takeaways were flying out of the restaurant and the boss was screaming yes screaming at his staff and what happened next was so shocking he hit 😳 his staff member 😳 not once , twice, we then decided to just pay for our drinks and leave.
