How can a place change so dramatically overnight ? We arrived late after problems on the I.O.W ferry but were very accomadating moving our booking back and allowing us to eat after a long day. Food was great and a nice pint of Guinness was very welcome. One criticism, very limited veg options. This morning however was like a different place altogether, We stayed at the premier inn adjoined so booked breakfast for 9am. on walking in there was a queue of people waiting and seemingly ignored for a while or told 'we will be with you shortly' eventually got seated and a drinks order taken. 5 minutes later we were told they had ran out of orange juice ? how does that happen at a place like that? our order was then taken and food arrived along what was supposed to be toast, in actual fact it was warm bread layed on the grill for about 5 seconds....really bad. bacon was inedible, hard as rock and hash brown was hard. staff were running about, obviously not enough even for a 'not busy' morning with way under half the tables taken. certainly not a way to start the day having to drive along the M25 too. EDIT Response to the owner trying to put me down, it's not a matter of not knowing how the system works...or doesn't work. so you think a plate of corn, brocolli, peas etc is a 'vegetarian option' ? As far as we could see there were only 2 vegetarian meal options on the evening menu. a plate of peas and corn cannot be classed as a meal. you prepare the toast ?...think the image says it all. and there is NO WAY the bacon was cooked to order, hence why it was left on the plate so i didnt break my teeth. If its a case of not being able to offer what you advertise without it being a problem then maybe cut it down to something more managable until...
Read moreVery disappointed by our experience yesterday evening. We visit this Beefeater quite a lot & have even used it for large bookings a few times. Usually our experience is very positive and yesterday we took friends with us and our daughters and when we realised that Martin was our server we told them how friendly and helpful we had always found him to be. However, last night he was extremely loud and often rude in the way he spoke, including swearing loudly. We tried to pass this off as his sense of humour but as soon as we'd finished our desserts he gave us the bill before we had asked for it and without asking if we wanted coffees or anything else, saying he wanted to get to the pub! I had a voucher that I needed to use and when I gave it to him he walked off then returned with a revised bill which he threw down in front of me and grabbed the original bill, screwed it up and threw it on the table. When he brought the card machine for payment we asked if we could all pay separately as we had worked out how much each of us owed. He showed us the gratuity section on the machine and asked for a tip and I told him we would give him cash for that. At the point when I tried to give him this I had not realised there was one person left to pay their part of the bill so he grabbed the cash, threw it down and told me very loudly that we still owed money on the bill. When this part was paid he snatched the cash back and walked off saying he could now go to the pub. As myself and my husband and our friends are all living on pensions we have to decide carefully on where we spend our money when eating out and, although the food was good, we are very doubtful about returning to what was one of our favourite restaurants to receive such...
Read moreI normally have only good things to say about beefeaters, the new menu is very good with tempting offers! However, my first time to cricketers and way below what I expected . . . First of all couldnt find our reservation, asked to see my email confirmation. They did honour it once I retrieved it so thats a positive! Quick to order drinks but said drinks took nearly 25 minutes to arrive . . . Kids starters turned up close to the 45 min mark and then another 25 mins for our mains. Food was good apart from my steak and kids beans - both obvs left on a hot plate for far too long, my medium steak very close to well done and beans had that layer of congeal after being left. Finished mains and waited another 20 odd minutes for them to clear tables and then I had to ask for dessert menu, at this point I had clocked at least 3 members of staff, including our server wondering around ☹ This was nearing 10pm now, we had been there for almost 2 hours and in the end only ordered the kids desserts that came with meal as they were shattered and we were trying to hurry along a little. Server was polite, could not fault his attitude towards us but they all seemed ready to go home and this came across, a surprise considering I had to find someone in the end to settle bill as we just wanted to go home. Unfortunately this visit was ruined by very slow service and poor attitude towards general customer service. Will not be returning to this particular beefeater but hope it improves...
