PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Tandridge

Customer Experience was disappointing. I arrived to collect our food order this evening and on arrival not even welcomed at the door , in fact I was left standing by the door for nearly a good five minutes without anyone making any effort to talk to me (the paying customer) When someone did eventually ask it was “are you here for the collection order that was put through?” I thought that was quite rude as there was no welcome or hello said but I understand people are busy on a bank holiday Monday evening.

After I replied “yes I am” the woman walked off without saying anything. Couple of minutes later she returned and said “there you go” handing me the food. There was no Thank you ! which I thought was weird as previously Sunday when I was in there collect another big order the staff were very polite and helpful. The woman had a Lanyard on and was dressed differently to the others so I asked if she was the manager which she replied with “yes” so I then asked for her name and she told me her name was Anna. All I got was a confused look rather then the manager asking if everything is okay ?

Infact no it was not okay to leave a paying customer standing at the door without a “hello / welcome / hi how can I help? , also not updating them with their food order or saying Thank you ! (as we have just driven 15 minutes to collect as we are just outside of the area for delivery.) The customer service tonight was disappointing and making me wonder why we drive 15 minutes to collect a pizza that dominos could have delivered and for a better price too. We came back because the food is Really Good ! The 1 star review is not based on the quality of the food because that’s great but it’s based on customer experience.

I hope this improves dramatically if we do decide to...

I’d like to share my experience at oxted pizza express, as I was genuinely taken aback by the atrocious service I was faced with. We arrived in the restaurant at 8pm , where there was one other table of 2 who looked as if they were on their mains. We put out stuff down and went to use the bathroom, came back and sat down on our table. We didn’t see the waitress for about 10 minutes and she didn’t come over for about 15 mins. We weren’t offered water or anything. The other table was looking for the waitress aswell as they looked as if they were waiting to pay. When she finally came over to take our order, she was rude, unprofessional and just ultimately very unwelcoming. I’ve worked in hospitality for about 3 years so I understand a busy shift, or having a bad day, however the attitude and interactions we faced this visit were actually laughable and unacceptable . On top of this, my pizza (me and a friend ordered the exact same meal), was sat out for 5 minutes without a heat lamp before it was bought over, meaning it was cold. The server did not check back at all, nor was she even present for me to complain about my food. I could go on for ages about how abysmal this visit was, however I would like to talk to a general manager of this branch and explain my experience further. So, don’t even know where to start… I used to be in love with Pizza Express when I was working in central London and it was always my “go to” for lunch. I don’t know what changed, but their portions are smaller and the prices constantly go up, whilst the quality is also in quick decline.

I finally decided to write a review because I ordered, about half hour ago, an order for collection.

I have a mild allergy to rocket, which means that I can tolerate foods that get in contact with it, but cannot actually eat even a gram of it… therefore, I ordered, as I always used to, their Grand Chicken Caesar salad, that is supposed to have only cos lettuce as “leafy ingredient”, nothing else. To my big surprise, I got home to a demonic mix of leaves, mainly rocket to be clear, a tiny bit of lettuce and some spinach - see photo.

I thought that I was maybe confused and I rechecked the menu on their site - see the second photo. And I was right! As per the standard recipe and their own menu, Pizza Express should have not given me a salad based on mixed leaves.

Disappointing, even more so as they don’t deliver all the way to our home, so we had to drive for half hour...
