Café Papillon — Restaurant in Tandridge

Visited Papillon in Oxted today for lunch and was very disappointed. We ordered our lunch then waited 45 minutes before it arrived. I was told it was because they were busy. My husband ordered fish and chips (£12) -. the batter on the fish was doughy in places and my husband was unable to eat it, the salad served with it was sloppy as had been drenched in too much dressing. and the chips resembled crisps as they were so overdone. My daughter and I had salad, (£10) the chicken was dry although there was enough of it and far too many croutons whereas the actual salad, apart from one cherry tomato consisted mainly of slices of green pepper. Visited today. Asked for an adults Jacket Potatoe cheese and beans and 2x Kids ones.

You would have thought I asked the waitress to solve world peace.

She politely explained that it wouldn't be possible to cut an adult Jacket Potatoe in half and put half of it on two plates since they do not do kids Jacket Potatoes on the menu.

After what looked like a melt down and argument between staff in the kitchen I was politely handed two adult J Potatoes cheese and beans and told I would have to divide it myself.

How big a deal is it for a small cafe to just split a jacket potatoe, cbeese and beans?

To top it, I bought two small Yazoo milkshakes and a Latte alongside the above. Total cost £32.........

Excellent cafe, very close to Oxted rail station. Friendly helpful staff. We just missed the midday deadline for the breakfast menu, which includes the omelettes. So asked if we could have omelettes even though they were supposedly not served after midday. Waitress asked chef, chef said ok ! Excellent omelettes, chips, side salad, really top quality, better than most places for quality of food and how cooked I think. Think price was reasonable too (my friend paid so not sure about the price details, just glanced at on menu). Place was very clean and pleasant.
