Can't seem to write a new review for this restaurant so adding this on to previous review.
Ordered a takeaway for delivery. I looked up online on their website to check out the menu. My husband did the same but he did it via Just Eat. There was a slight price difference so I rung up the restaurant to ask about it. They very kindly gave us a discount (I always prefer to order direct from the restaurant than by a third party platform which takes a huge chunk of commission from the business). Service was wonderful. Food arrived quicker than anticipated. I paid the full amount, telling the driver to keep the rest as a tip (I don't have much cash around nowadays but I do like to tip drivers if I can as they are doing me a huge favour by bringing the food to me and doing it so quickly! I always feel so bad when I don't have enough cash for a tip!)
The food was delicious as always. Have added some pics. King Prawn Rogan Josh, Saag Paneer, Chicken Bhuna.
I have heard of people complaining that the food is expensive but I do believe you get what you pay for. Everyone knows the hospitality industry is having a difficult time and we see restaurants come and go...it's in the news all the time! Unfortunately there will always be people wanting something for nothing. Royal Tandoori, keep doing what you are doing. Keep your standards high. Don't go cheap like many indian restaurants. We loved our meal. Everything was delicious. Poppadoms lovely and crisp, Naan bread lovely and soft. I highly recommend them!
We often order takeaways from here, and everything always tastes fresh and flavoursome. It's more expensive than many of the other indian restaurants in the area but I believe it's worth it for the quality of food. I really enjoyed the xacuti chicken last time, and my husband loved the king prawn rogan josh. My children loved the naan bread, lovely and soft whilst the paratha is my favourite, lovely and flakey. The saag paneer is a bit different to how we've had it in other places but, nevertheless, still thoroughly enjoyable. I'm writing this review and really want an Indian...
Read moreGreat little local restaurant with lovely atmosphere. 3 of us dined and started with some drinks and poppadoms. They came swiftly and the restaurant wasn't too busy which meant it was pleasant to chat and relax. We eventually ordered mains, I must admit we were waiting for some time and asked to order. I think you have to finish your poppadoms before you can order mains because we weren't allowed to keep them while we waited for our mains. Now the restaurant wasn't busy as I mentioned but for some reason our drinks and mains took ages, and even then we didn't get our naans for another 10 mins or so.....we had finished our mains when we asked about our drinks, eventually they came (just a bottle of coke and a lemonade) but couldn't help thinking we were waiting a lot. Food was not bad. They didn't mind that I ordered tandoori chicken with my curry and we're happy to offer some rice suggestions (mushroom rice). Personally one portion of rice could easily be shared between two. The bhajis were good and the naans fluffy. I ordered butter chicken, which varies a lot from place to place and it was flavoursome and not spicy, which I like. My friend had a vegetable curry and I think it was a balti....both enjoyed their meal very much. One friend often visits here and has had much more experience than my one time visit and he loves the place!! It was reasonably priced for the three of us at around £40 (no booze) a head but honestly I'd expect all round better service for that price. Oh by the way if you are driving there's a car park just a bit further up the road that's free in the evening and less than a min walk away.
Please do try this place but personally I prefer Chat House Tandoori, all round more...
Read moreI am a regular patron of the Royal Tandoori in Whyteleafe and I am happy to report that this is one of the finest curry houses you'll ever have the pleasure of trying. There are other curry restaurants in the are but once I discovered and sampled the delights of RTW, there was no going back.
The food is excellent, their standard fayre of Baltis, Biryanis, Bhunas and Bhajis are cooked to an extremely high standard. They also have some delightfully exotic fusion dishes and some specialities that demand to be explored.
I usually go for their King Prawn Balti and a Lemon Pilau, which is quite simply stunning. I have taken friends and family to eat there and every single one of them has found it either equals any of the finest curry houses they have been to before.
These reviewers spouting off their idiotic views about problems with delivery and how greasy the food is, well I can assure you that they are mental/deluded. I've regularly ordered from this restaurant without any delivery problems, and as for the food being greasy - well this is South Asian cuisine? You know - the one that is quite famously cooked in ghee and lots of it?!?!
Some people really do make you wonder. At least they take care to pack the food very well, the take away cartons are good quality and they double bag (paper & plastic) the food to prevent any potential oil escaping over your kitchen counter top!!
So in summary; ignore the petty naysayers. This is a good as curry gets and if you're in the area definitely make the effort to call in and try it...
