A spacious coffee shop that offers outdoor seating as well. Great selection of cakes and coffees. I tried their Battenburg cake with the recently unveiled cold froth iced cappuccino. The cake was amazing, not overpowering with marzipan flavour, but just right - a surprisingly light cake. Whilst I found the cold froth underwhelming, it's always good to try new flavours. As per their more famous competitor in town they offer a loyalty card. Of the two coffee shops I think my loyalty would be found here.

I used to love this coffee shop when it first arrived, but it’s really gone downhill lately, unsure why. The last few visits have been poorly served (no real interaction), on wonky trays or sometimes no tray. Today things peaked when I was served tea in a stained, broken teapot, on a wonky tray, in a cup with no saucer or teaspoon. This was accompanied by a piece of stale Victoria sponge cake. I’ll stick with the more ordinary but also more consistent larger chain on the high street.

Lovely coffee shop in the middle of the town with a nice atmosphere. Great selection of coffee, tea, smoothies, juices frappes etc and a large selection of cakes and snacks. Lots of seating available as well including outside seats for when the weather is nice. Recommended!

I’ve never written a bad review before as I don’t believe in it unless absolutely necessary, and sadly this is the case. My partner and I have been regular customers here for 3 years now and for 2 years nearly we’ve had constant issues with one of the girls who joined here then. We have no idea who she is, however every time we have gone in and she’s been working, she gives me/us disgusted looks and every order she messes with our order (no exaggeration.) The first time she made it extremely hot to the point I burnt my mouth so severely I had a white blister and couldn’t drink or eat properly for a week. This was after I requested for it to not be very hot as my newborn son was crying lots so it needed to be drunk quickly. After this first issue there has always been problems whenever she served us, however we returned as we got along really well with the other staff members and they made our drinks fine. We complained about the issues to another member of staff nearly 1 year ago, who told us they’d have a word but sadly things didn’t change. We stopped going in as much but we came in again recently for the first time in a few months and she served us again. We had the exact same treatment as previous times. She charged my family and I for large drinks when we all precisely said more than once we wanted regulars. She also made my drink completely wrong, so I was charged for a more expensive drink and received a basic one. My family’s drinks were also cold. We overheard a lady on a table behind us say their drink was made wrong also and went to complain. We considered getting ours remade also but my family said to just leave it and we wouldn’t return again. As we left we saw the elderly lady who complained waiting for her new drink to be made. As the lady waited she watched the girl and this girl was giving her the same uncomfortable stares to the elderly lady that we had always received. I don’t like the fact I’m writing this review but feel it’s necessary because the issue as been ongoing for so long. This kind of treatment and attitude to customers, especially ones that feel targeted like us is unacceptable and makes people not want to return. I understand hospitality jobs are difficult as I I have worked for some before, but if you don’t enjoy it then you shouldn’t take it out on...

At first I left a relatively positive review of this coffee shop, but after repeated visits I've decided to downgrade my rating. As other reviewers have noted, the service is often extremely slow, and there are some members of staff who are really letting the place down: they would rather stand around chatting than serve customers, clear tables, or assist their more polite colleagues who they've left to do most of the work by themselves.

The coffee has generally been pretty good in my opinion, at least when you compare it to other chains like Costa. I appreciate that the drinks menu is not overly complicated or pretentious while still providing a decent amount of choice.

The food is decent enough, if a little expensive. I've had a few sweet treats and some hot food from here and it's been enjoyable. The ham and cheese toastie I had was actually served pretty fast in comparison to the coffee - I had just sat down when it was brought over to my table.

I would like to see food continue to be served a little longer in the evening (if possible) as currently it is not available in the last hour before closing. I'm also not that enthusiastic about the use of disposable cups in the last hour before closing, and on some occasions where presumably there was a problem with the dishwasher.

All in all, Coffee#1 in Newton Abbot has a lot of potential, as evidenced by the glowing reviews in previous years. But when you're paying as much as you are, I think the service needs to be better. I will probably still pop in from time to time but I will also start investigating another one of Newton Abbot's myriad of coffee...

I moved to Newton Abbot in 2016, I didn't know much about the place. My first day i needed to meet my partner at the cinema, as I was walking by I smelt the most incredible aromas, gorgeous coffee smells and I definitely had to go in. I was greeted by a massive and warm smile (I am absolutely terrible with names I must admit so I apologise if I don't name anyone). I was served by Coffee#1's late and ever so lovely Matt. He asked me what I would like but as I didn't know too much I asked for some suggestions. Very descriptive, told me all of the specials on at the time and helped me a lot with the menu for the food and drink. In the end I chose a Caramel Maciatto and mint choc chip hot chocolate for my partner. As I waited I saw the decor and styling. Coffee#1 is a lovely place to sit, relax with Coffee and a cake. So chilled, great atmosphere. I have since brought my friends, my partner and family to have a nice gathering with the most incredible coffee. When you got to a place the first impressions are important. And Coffee#1 is definitely one of those places that I will remember with great memories. My first day in Newton with the friendliest and smiley server I have ever met. I think all of the staff are absolutely lovely, beaming with smiles and ever so helpful. They have an incredible range of coffees which you can have hot or iced, incredible specials, the pumpkin spice is the best one for me! Great deals and the loveliest food, the cheesecake it beautiful. I highly recommend Coffee#1 to each and everyone. Definitely my...
