Our table was booked for the same time as the restaurant opened at 4PM - the open sign was just being turned around & our server immediately greeted us and showed us to our table. No wobbly table which was a welcome change to my usual experience eating out! Background music was sensible level - everywhere was very clean, tidy and well maintained. Service was attentive but not overbearing, menu selection was centered around steaks - but with plenty of other options including a couple of vegetarian dishes. We only ordered mains, which took a little while to arrive but not an excessive wait. I had the Black Rock burger with loads of hot & crisp sweet potato fries! The only very minor complaint is the bacon fat was left on making some bites of the burger a bit chewy/stringy! My sister had the pulled pork "sandwich" which was more of a baguette cut into 3 - quite a large meal with the fries as well! Hot, tasty and we'll prepared. Would definitely come again & recommend to others - 4PM a great time to come if you like your dining experience personal & quiet as I do - but perhaps come a bit later if you want more of an ambience.

First time I went to the Black Rock was totally amazing. I had the Surf n Turf on the stone and it was outstanding, the wife had the sirloin which looked absolutely scrumptious, the chunky chips are fabulous. Service was just perfect, tending to our every needs, the ambience of this restaurant is just outstanding, no loud music so you can actually sit and talk without having to shout at each other. Although the 2nd time we went was our 30th wedding anniversary wasn’t as pleasant as the 1st, waitress ignored me when I said my dish wasn’t up to standard, my steak looked like it had been through mincer, prawns wasn’t cooked & put on top of my med/rare steak. We got there at 7pm & left at 7.40pm. I ordered a takeaway from local kebab house instead. I was asked by another diner why are we leaving, I showed the couple the pictures I had taken, they both said that’s totally unacceptable, “did you speak to the manager” I said the waitress said he’s not in tonight, the couple said yes he is. Maybe it was an off night, I may give it another go, or maybe they don’t need my custom. That’s why I only gave them 3 stars. Sorry 🙏

So, this restaurant had been mentioned to me for being an up n coming restaurant that’s different to the others locally! And I have to agree.. We decided to come here as a birthday try out, prebooked our table and when we arrived, there’s a Happy Birthday sign on our table, sweet addition and unexpected! So it was a nice touch, we both went for the ‘The Black Rock’ experience and had steak on the rock and have to say we both really enjoyed it! I had the garlic mushrooms to start with which could have done with more garlic but was tasty nevertheless, the service was very good and they were really trying you could tell.. so it’s a thumbs up from us! The cooking your own steak on rock was quite cool and reminded me of a steak fondue in Switzerland.. well worth a try! As an apology for the Prosecco not being cold, they gave me an extra mini bottle for free which was definitely a thumbs up and all forgiven! We’ll be back for sure!

We did not know this restaurant because we're not local to Clacton but took a chance on father's day and what a great choice we made. Black rock is a special place!! We are a party of seven and as soon as we walked down the steps we were made to feel at home. Drinks came to us double quick and the food seemed to arrive just as fast. Now the food was different class!! We had steaks that were pure perfection and totally delicious and a couple of different burgers and everyone enjoyed every bite. I can't fault anything it was incredible. Now if u think that was good enough, well the service was even better. All the staff were amazing and worked so very hard but I've got to give a special shoutout to paige our waitress. She worked non stop and anything and everything we needed was there in a flash, all served with a smile. Thanks paige you made my family feel v.i.p. Great work. If your in Clacton and you love a steak you can't go wrong at black rock restaurant. It really is special but try...
