Five years ago I posted the review below. This time we were disappointed. The service was good, but the food was disappointing. We have been there many times, yet this time the food was merely mediocre but quite expensive for what it was. Overall a disappontment. They seem more focussed on getting people to order than improving the quality of the food. Its fine if all you want is beer and a burger outside in the sun, but inside needs attention and customers should come first. There is a captive market here, drinks and food for those visiting the beach. Maybe you should have a reshuffle and a dedicated counter for outdoor ordering and food service. We sat in a corner by the kitchen and were constantly drowned out by staff shouting orders and an endless stream of food being taken outside. If this area was purely for outside dining and orders, you could have dieect kitchen access, food service via the double doors (which were blocked by highchairs) this would only mean losing 10 seats, there is a window that could be adapted for outdoor orders, then the seating station in the bar would actually concentrate on indoor customers. Our previous review was: Friendly, good for kids. Huge portions so great value for money!! Menu shows the history of the Inn which is a nice touch. Ours was a nostalgic visit, which we hope to repeat when we are next in the area. We will definitely recommend this Inn. Enjoy your visit! Hopefully the owners streamline their systems in time for the summer rush.

Although I never used the pub on my visit to Kingsgate Bay, the bar itself offers great views across the bay to Kingsgate Castle and the beach. The large car park is free for patrons (but £10 for the day for visitors to Kingsgate Bay beach) In addition, there is a play area for children. There is also outside dinning for visitors with table service, ordered from within the bar itself. The history of the Captain Digby stretches back to the 18th century, when it was built by the 1st Baron Holland to entertain guests at his neighbouring manor. It was named in honour of his nephew, a famous 18th century sea captain. The original Captain Digby bar is long gone, having been lost to cliff collapses in the 19th century - with the last part lost in the late 20th century. What is seen now is a mid 19th century building that has been extended over time to include a restaurant. Beneath the Captain Digby is a large cave, reputedly used by smugglers who frequented the Kent coastline.

They serving drinks before 12, but for food you need wait to 12 noon. However, it is worth waiting for your food, with a coffee or a cold "drink with foam". The portions are huge and the food is delicious. Parking, however, is £10 "per day", try to say you are going to a restaurant. apparently then the parking is paid by the restaurant. There are places for the disabled. If you are allergic to fur, take a place inside the premises, not outside. On the terrace you can smoke and there are water bowls for dogs. Great, but my allergy came right away. Point for taking care of pets and smokers. It would be useful to allocate 1/3 of the terrace for those allergic to smoke and fur. I recommend a visit to this place. And one more thing. There was no longer atolija on the booking site, but I managed to find it after arriving in the wild. try. it's worth it.

A friendly place with a perfect view over the beach and the cliffs around, with mid-range prices, and big portions of delicious food. The only reason I give 4* instead of 5 is that: a) the toilet was very dirty - the floor all wet, with wet paper around, and the seats and the toilets were also dirty, didn't look like they are being checked regularly. Also there was no soap at all so couldn't wash hands, lucky I had hand sanitizer on me b) Instead of giving a small tray of sauces like in pubs, they ask you what kind of sauce do you want but then we got the chosen ones in paper cups, like in McDonald's. It is not the best experience. All in all, I'd recommend the place but they should watch out more for the restrooms and be more generous on sauces.

So, I'll give this a 3, because the view and atmosphere is beautiful, and the service was amazing, but I was so sadly disappointed in the vegan food. The burger patty itself was delicious because I'm assuming it was the Beyond Meat patty, but they put absolutely no love into the food... the roll was too big meaning the burger was so dry, they put almost no relish on it as advertised meaning it was even more dry and they really could have griddled the cheese a bit (vegan cheese obviously does not melt like regular cheese). The chips were so overcooked they snapped in half and were dry. The people next to me looked like they had amazing food so I'm hoping if ever I return, this oversight is rectified.
