Was here a couple of weeks ago, and wasn't very impressed. My mate Mick used to run this place, and the atmosphere used to be way more relaxed, and Mick's girls were always bubbly and happy. On this most recent occasion, the food was ok, and service was pretty swift. But I couldn't help noticing that prices have almost doubled since Mick ran the place. And you are now charged extra for items that used to be included, like thick cut bread and butter, and mushrooms on your breakfast. I opted for a number 2 breakfast, and my pal who was with me went for the all in option (greedy guts) Food was served quickly, but it was quiet, with only three other customers eating. The food looked good, but bacon was quite tough, with not much flavour. Sausage was ok, but not up to the same standard that Mick used to serve. And the rest of the breakfast was just ok, and could have been hotter. Coffee was weak as p!ss, and didn't taste like Kenco, which I drink all the time at work. However, it was nice and clean, and the seating was comfortable enough. I get that prices rise over time, but often people's wages take a lot longer to catch up, as employers don't really like giving their employees a pay rise, even if it is to keep pace with inflation!
To summarise then, the experience was ok, but I was looking forward to taking my pal there, after raving about how good it was. But I regret to say, it was a bit of an anti climax, and I will probably cross this place off my list of good greasy spoon cafe:s in future, due to the prices, food quality, and atmosphere. Everybody has their own way of running a business I suppose, but in my opinion, Mick gave so much more for your money, in every respect. Would it really hurt to include a nice thick buttered doorstep with a set breakfast? There's no need to charge nearly the price of a loaf, for one slice. 10 or 15p on top of a breakfast would be fair, if you have to charge at all. But...

Read moreI had to urgently travel from Sheppey to Ramsgate early this morning, as I left my suitcase on the train the night before (which contained my work laptop) and had to come and collect it at the station and log on in time for work. However, I was in need of a table/place to set up and work, so I called up Rising Sun and they ever so kindly reserved me a table next to a plug socket. I arrived and the staff were super friendly, the service was excellent and the food was amazing (they even have veggie sausages, which is rare to find). I was able to work in peace for a couple or hours without being disturbed and wasn't asked to free up the table or keep ordering something in order to stay. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who happens to be in the...
