I've given this venue more chances than a cat with nine lives, but I'm done. It's my closest pub, so I’ve returned several times, hoping for improvement, but I won’t be going back.
Meals are consistently bland, as if flavor is a crime. Chips are always undercooked—one time, they were still frozen. Dry burgers with not a hint of relish and overcooked cod paired with undercooked chips. My latest visit this past Friday was the last straw. It wasn't even a busy night, so there's really no excuse. After a decent start with prompt service for our main course, the evening rapidly declined. It took 15 minutes for someone to clear our table and bring the dessert menu. No one came to take our order, so after 20 minutes of waiting, we had to go on a staff scavenger hunt—so much for table service.
I've worked in restaurants, pubs, and golf clubs, so I know the drill, and it certainly doesn't take over half an hour to pour half a pint. Another round of drinks ordered during this time never arrived. Half an hour later, we finished dessert without the drinks we paid for or the promised tea to go with the dessert. Once more, we embarked on a quest to find staff to cancel these phantom beverages and pay the bill.
The poor drink selection doesn't help either. The food is terrible. The interior is passable at best, but the back room is another story—think elderly care home disco vibes with tacky disco balls and cheap curtains hiding the venue's only charm. The entertainment last Friday was rather... intriguing: a young lady singing old pop songs in what looked like her underwear to a crowd of pensioners. Whatever floats your boat, I guess.
With (quiet) a few tweaks, it could be great. So why is the management stuck in the dark ages? Who are they trying...
Read moreAfter seeing the reviews I was looking forward to eating here, but sadly I left disappointed. A classic pub (that did feel a bit like a club house) with a classic pub menu. I was just spoilt for choice on what to have and opted for the deep fried potato skins with cheese and ham and a prawn salad for main. The deep fried potato skins turned out to be a jacket potato cut in half, which appeared to have only been shown the fryer for a few seconds with melted cheese and some torn ham to the top and the potato was just warm. My prawn salad was unusual in that it had quarters of orange (skin on) and quarters of apple, some lettuce, cucumber and tomatoe and a lot of onion, I might have also spied some cress. The prawns, served in a small dish was the same dish they’d been defrosted in as the melted ice/liquid was sloshing around in the bottom of the dish. Maybe I was just unfortunate with my choices, or it was the chefs day off, although I wouldn’t eat here again the place had a nice atmosphere and staff...
Read moreLove this pub very local to me and easy accessible. Car 🚙 park was almost full very lucky to find a free space. Booked a table for 6 people (family) and met up in the car park. Pub was very busy , function room booked and sounds of happy children could heard . Sat at our table and was immediately looked after by the kind and caring staff. Atmosphere is always friendly here and you are made to feel welcome straight away . Ordered drinks 🍺 and food which was served at a reasonable waiting time. Food was well presented and tasted good . Generous portions both dinner and deserts . Children’s play area was clean and safe . Lovely afternoon spent here with family not been here for a little while . Covid rules applied hand sanitizer everywhere. One thing I have to mention is the Tikka Malsa is not what I expected it was flavourless and served with the wrong rice . Aldi’s own frozen curry tops the Racing Greyhound version....
